Obituary of Martha Penner

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Martha Penner (nee Wyryha), 65, of Steinbach, MB at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on Friday December 23, 2011. She is survived by three sons and one daughter and their familes: Rick (Doreen), Roger (Jennifer), Gregg (Brittany), Tracy (Jerry); Five grandchildren: Regan, Kiersten, Dawn, Timothy, and Madison and two step grandchidren Justin and Aimee and three brothers and two sisters. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, son Clifford at infancy, one brother, one nephew, and both parents and parent-in-laws. Mom was born on May 7, 1946 at Pansy Manitoba. Her life began like any normal child but at age 11 she was diagnosed with polio and scoliosis. As a result, she was confined to a wheelchair for the next 54 years. This was the start of many physical challenges but mom took them all on in stride and never gave up so she could become independent. On June 1, 1974, she married the love her Iife our dad and together they started a family in which she truly loved and adored. The family would do gardening; take day trips, fishing, and many other activities. Family and their happiness always came first and mom always went the extra mile for us. On any summer day you would catch mom attending her flowers and garden to ensure the weeds would not take over and there were many times she got stuck in the garden with her wheelchair and would be calling out for assistance. Mom loved her Ukrainian heritage and passed on some important traditions to us children. She believed that life was to be celebrated to the fullest. She enjoyed Ukrainian music; polkas were her favourite. Ukrainian dancing was one of here favourite events and she was able to see some of her grandchildren take on this traditional dancing. Mom opened up her heart and home to many people She made friends wherever she went. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity and kindness and touched the lives of many people. Mom’s most important thing in life is that her children would walk with the Lord and pass on the teachings she taught us. Another important thing is here attitude of “never give up” in all circumstances. Mom thanks for the memories and we will miss you, but we know we will see you again. “Enjoy Your Walk with Dad” Fly mom Fly Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Wednesday, December 28 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service.
