Obituary of Lindy Williams
It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Lindy Williams, 77, on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, while surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, wonderful brother, uncle and devoted friend.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Yvonne, sister Glen Sheldon. children Terry and Ted (Lind), Tilly and Don (Derkatch), Mike (Debbie), Steve and Heather, Nancy and Brad (Dumontet), 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Predeceased by the mother of his children, loving first wife Dorothy (Dodie); also his parents and five siblings.
Lindy grew up in Stonewall, where he attended school and graduated with a grade 12. His first job was at Royal Bank of Canada, Union Stockyards bank in 1952, he started his career as a carman CN – Transcona shops which began in 1953 and lasted for 35 years. After his retirement in 1988, Lindy went to work for the AFM helping others there with addictions. He spent the balance of his retirement enjoying life being a jack of all trades welcoming lots of company. Lindy’s sense of humour and gentlemanly, demeanour and generosity drew people to him and leaves all of us with fond memories.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial Service will be held Friday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr, Steinbach.
