Elizabeth Hiebert of New Bothwell passed away peacefully after three days of illness at the Bethesda hospital in Steinbach on November 6, 2006 at teh age of 90 years. She is survived by one daughter, Edna and husband Erwin Vogt of New Bothwell and five grandsons, Murray and Janet Vogt of New Bothwell, Merlyn and Barb Vogt of Morris, Myron and Penny Vogt, Kyle and Norine Vogt of New Bothwell and Stuart Vogt of Brooks Alberta. She has 12 great grandchildren, Chantelle, Kari, Evan, Tanner, Laura, Braedon, Gavin, Noah, Kyndra, Chelsea, Hannah, and Azure. She is also survived by her sister Martha and Abe Friesen of Kleefeld, sister Mary and John Fehr, brothers Peter Hildebrand and Johnny and Esther Hildebrand of South America. She was pre-deceased by her husband Peter N Hiebert in 1963, her parents Jacob and Elizabeth Hildebrand, brothers Jacob and Katherine Hildebrand, George Hildebrand and sister Anna Banman and three sisters in infancy, as well as sister-in-law Susie Hildebrand. She also leaves behind all her beloved nieces and nephews, the community of New Bothwell and all her friends that love her so dearly. She was born on May 13, 1916 in (Kronsthal) New Bothwell on the same section that she was living on until her passing. She enjoyed every minute of life and was a hard worker and did whatever had to be done willingly. She helped on her parents farm until she married Peter on September 17, 1939, and together they built up the store and post office in New Bothwell. They worked together in this business until he passed away in 1963 after which she ran the business on her own for many more years. She was a correspondent for the German Steinbach Post for many years and many will miss her columns. After she retired, she moved into the house next door that was owned by Edna and Erwin Vogt and built by her husband Peter. She spent the rest of her days there on her own until her illness on November 3rd when she was taken to the Bethesda Hospital where she passed away November 6th. During this time she said goodbye to her family and her many dear friends that came to visit her. The family can’t express in words our thankfulness for the love and kindness that was shown to us and to those that opened up their homes to us during her hospital stay. We thank the staff at the Bethesda hospital in the emergency room and on the ward for their compassionate care. We are also grateful to the community of New Bothwell for being her family, she loved all of you. We let her go with sadness, but rejoice that she went from a good home to a glorious home with Jesus. Viewing will be held at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m. with a program at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2006 at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church in Steinbach at 11:00 a.m. with interment at the Silberfeld CMC Cemetery.
