Peacefully, following coronary complications, Freda Janz passed away with precious family at her side, at Bethesda Hospital on October 8, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband Ben, children Reg, Royden and Eleanor. She will be deeply missed by her sons Tim and Loren; daughters-in law Loretta, Sharon, Caroline; sons-in-law Barry and Glen; 15 Grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Freda was born on August 14, 1916 in Neuendorf Ukraine and came to Canada as a child. Following nursing training she married Ben B. Janz in 1939. They settled in Steinbach and were blessed with five children. Throughout their lives Freda was always the consummate caregiver, devoted mom, committed friend and tireless volunteer. She loved everyone. This was reflected by her involvement in child evangelism in schools, Ladies Auxiliary work at both Steinbach Bible School and Bethesda Hospital, making blankets and providing for the needy through various missions groups, service at a mission in Hodgson, Manitoba - a lifetime of giving. This truly was a reflection of her love for God. This unconditional love was also directed in-no-small measure to her family. For this we are eternally grateful; an example to be observed and practiced by all. Her unwavering faith saw her through the deaths of three adult children and was a mainstay in her entire life. Her prayer lists rivaled phone books. In her later years she became part of the community at Fernwood Place in Steinbach. She loved and was loved by many there. A viewing will be held October 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Fernwood Place, 303 Third Street, Steinbach. A service commemorating her life will be held Wednesday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfield Drive, Steinbach. In lieu of flowers donations to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, R3T 5K9 (designated to feed children) will be greatly appreciated.
