Obituary of Martin Klassen

Dad at the age of 82 years, three months, three weeks and one day on November 02, 2010 at 5:20 p.m., went to be with his Lord and Saviour at the Ste. Anne Hospital. Dad was born July 11, 1928 to John and Maria Klassen in Altona, MB and raised on the family farm. He was baptized in the Sommerfeld Church, Schoenthal, MB by Bishop Toews June 1947. He married Helena Dyck Oct 29, 1948. Dad is survived by his wife Lena and 5 children, Richard (wife Johanna) of Steinbach, Garry (wife Barb) of Steinbach, Doreen (husband Andre) Klamka of Winnipeg, Delores (husband Peter) Friesen of Steinbach, Robert (wife Connie) of Pansy as well as 13 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren as well as twin brother Dan, Abe, Andrew, and Henry, sisters Justina Fehr and Sara Dyck. Dad was predeceased by his parents John D and Maria Klassen, brother Jake in infancy and another brother Jake, John and sisters Mary Kerr and Margaret Hoppe. Dad was a hard working man. Mom and Dad started their married life in Altona, then moved to Wpg. There Dad worked hauling coal in winter and sod in summer. Later they moved to a farm in Pansy. After 12 years of farming they sold and moved to Steinbach. During this time, he also worked up north for 4 years on heavy construction. He worked for Diamond Ready Mix for a while and as a mechanic at Penners International until he retired in July 1993. Dad had many struggles with various health issues, but also had many good times with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to thank you for all your prayers, support and encouragement during Dads stay in the hospital. We the family extend our most sincere thanks to Dr. Demosack, Dr. Bissonette, Dr. Chatel and the staff at the Ste. Anne Hospital. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held Friday, Nov 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in New Bothwell with interment at the church cemetery. If friends so desire donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Ste. Anne Hospital, 52 St. Gerard St.; Ste. Anne, MB R5H 1C4
