On Tuesday, November 2, 2010, with his family by his side, John Harder peacefully passed away at the age of 52 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 32 years, Carol; three children, Jackie (Eric) Penner, Chris (Sally) Harder, and Tyler Harder (Candace); three grandchildren Ethan, Kira, and Kaden Penner. John was a dedicated father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his family. Fond memories were developed during family camping trips, game nights, fires and Sunday dinners. John especially enjoyed sharing his love of trucking with his children by bringing them along for new adventures. John lead by example and taught his children and grandchildren integrity, a strong work ethic, courage, and humility. John was baptized upon the confession of his faith at the age of 30 years old and continued growing in his faith of God at the Southland Community Church. John led a successful 10 year career at Penner International Trucking. Furthermore, he was extremely proud of his accomplishments of owning several trucks. John’s hard-working, humorous personality created many life-long friendships during his trucking career. Throughout the years, he enjoyed sharing stories and his famous “one-liners” with his friends at the local coffee shops. We would like to thank all of the physicians, nurses and staff at Bethesda Hospital for their friendship and compassionate care. During John’s lengthy battle the family would like to thank all of the friends and family who continuously supported and visited him. Viewing is at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Monday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 pm, and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Southland Community Church with burial at the Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach.
