Peter Klassen, age 83, passed away suddenly at his home in Grunthal on Thursday, November 18, 2010. He will be sadly missed by his wife and family. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Gertrude (Friesen), children Ruth, Herman (Susan), Leonard (Kim), Greg, and Anita (Ray). There are 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren that will cherish the memory of his jokes and laughter. Dad was born in Steinfeld, Ukraine. His family immigrated to Canada in 1929, settling in the Grunthal area. Peter was baptized in 1945 in the Spencer Bergthaler Church where he attended to present day. Dad and Mom were married in June, 1953. During the first years Dad worked as a lumber jack near Prince George, BC and in 1956 they settled down to farm in Gnadenfeld near Grunthal. Dad was very outgoing and friendly to everyone he met where ever they went. His generosity, humor and goodwill towards others were obvious to everyone. Dad enjoyed an active social life. He loved to make people smile and laugh. The funeral service for Peter Klassen will be held at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 2:00 p.m. A viewing will be held at the church on Monday, Nov. 22 at 7:00 p.m. Interment at Grunthal Cemetery.
