Obituary of Henry R. Brandt

On Tuesday, August 7, 2007, Henry Brandt, age 85, of Steinbach (formerly of Rosenort), passed away at the Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. His memory will be cherished by son Larry; daughter Beverly (Doug), granddaughter Lynette (Jeff Dudar), grandson Kevin; daughter Grace (Harold Penner), granddaughter Crystal (Henry Friesen) and first and only great-granddaughter Rhiana, granddaughter Jennifer; son Wes, grandson Jared (Jaymi); daughter Glenda(Tim Butts), granddaughter Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, daughter Betty Lou in infancy, his parents Henry and Katherine, three brothers and three sisters. When some would say he was past his prime at the age of seventy some, Henry was actively involved in the Red Rock Cyclathon. Each year, Henry went around town and collected sponsors from many local business men. He often collected the most sponsorship money which was used by Red Rock to send many children to Bible camp throughout the summer. Henry also actively participated in the cyclathon by riding his bike. He could often be found riding his bike around town getting ready for his cycle to Red Rock. Local business men were eager to support Henry’s effort on behalf of Red Rock, by contacting him months before his cyclathon to offer their sponsorship. When Henry was prevented from riding his bike himself any longer due to an injury, he joined with a group of people from Steinbach, who rode the big Heart and Stroke bike. Henry is fondly remembered for his hard work and determination which has given many children the opportunity to learn more about Jesus at Bible camp. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 12 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with interment at Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to Red Rock Bible Camp, 204 – 320 Main St.; Steinbach, MB R5G 1Y6.
