Obituary of Erwin Vogt

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Erwin Vogt, loving husband to Edna Vogt (Hiebert), brother to Marie (George) Rempel, father of Murray (Janet) Vogt, Merlyn (Barbara) Vogt, Myron (Penny) Vogt, Kyle (Norine) Vogt, Stuart Vogt (Mary-Jane Friesen), and grandfather to Kari (Kyle) Rempel, Evan Vogt, Laura, Kyndra, Noah, Hannah, Azure, Chantelle (Favio) Dueck, Gavin, Chelsea, Tanner, Braidon, and Julius. Erwin passed away suddenly and peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of November 23, 2010 at his home in New Bothwell, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his mother Katherina on March 23, 1953 and his father Julius on March 16, 1963. Erwin is well known within the community, friends meant a lot to him and he meant a lot to them. He loved spending time teaching his children how to become better baseball and hockey players and in his later years spent time with his grandchildren showing them how to trap a mole or bait a hook. His passions included the outdoors and music. We remember him as an amazing guitar player and were always surprised how he could take almost any instrument and play it with ease. Erwin’s career consisted mostly of painting for various companies. The latter part of his working career included operating his own tree nursery business. In 2007 he retired from the business and driving school bus. Viewing will be held at the Silberfeld Chortitzer Mennonite Church on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will take place at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover St. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at the Silberfeld CMC Cemetery. The family wishes to express their great appreciation for all the prayers, words of encouragement, cards and expressions of sympathy received from friends and family. In remembrance of Erwin, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9 who were instrumental in enabling him and his family being able to immigrate to Canada.
