Obituary of John Reimer

Peacefully after a battle with cancer, his family by his side, at 3:47 a.m., the early morning of November 28, 2010, dad at age 76 was called home. John was born on January 4, 1934 in the Altona area. Besides his wife Pauline, John leaves to cherish his memory, his son Gary and wife Marilyn, his daughter Valerie and husband Darryn. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his grandchildren Nicole Reimer, Justin Nikkel, Jeremy Nikkel and Felicia Collins, as well as great-granddaughter Brooklyn Nikkel and one brother Henry Reimer. John and Pauline met one day walking on Bristol Road at the age of eighteen. Lo and behold two years later on October 9th, 1954 at twelve o’clock in the afternoon the wedding bells rang at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Dad worked for B. F. Goodrich in Winnipeg on Ellice Avenue. Baby number one, Gary came along in 1958. They then moved to Steinbach, where he worked with his brother Henry on the sanitation truck. Then along came Valerie in 1963. When the sanitation truck was sold to the town of Steinbach, he was employed at Penner Tire. While working at Penner Tire, he went to Winnipeg to meet with his old friend Bill Stevens, who convinced him of a good idea, open his own business in Steinbach, Space Age Tire. Dad then asked Henry Toews who also worked at Penner Tire to join him on his business venture. Space Age Tire was opened on 1972, where he was the owner until his retirement at age 65. Mom and dad loved to travel in their motorhome from California, to Florida, Texas to Thief River Falls. And their most favourite place was of course Grand Forks, Grand Forks, and Grand Forks. They also recently enjoyed a trip to Thief River Falls this past summer. Dad enjoyed his time with all of his grandchildren as well as his children. He thoroughly enjoyed the time he had with his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Dad also appreciated Hailey’s prayers, she meant a lot to him. Jacqueline (Funk) Plett also spent a lot of time with mom and dad. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St. E., Steinbach with Rev. Dr. Tim Perry officiating and Pastor Al Maier accompanying. Cremation will follow. Viewing will be held before the funeral service at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Nikkel, Justin Nikkel, Jason Peters, Darryn Duncun, Ray Nikkel, and Ronald Dyck all of Steinbach. The honorary pallbearers are Nicole Reimer of Steinbach and Roger Roy of British Columbia. If friends so wish donations may be made in Mr. Reimer’s memory to the Relay for Life through the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. A special thanks to Dr. Karen Toews, and all the staff at Bethesda Hospital as well as Tanya Harder. The family would also like to thank all the people who came to visit and all the prayers that were said.
