Erna Peters (nee Vogt) of Steinbach, MB passed away at the Bethesda Hospital on Wednesday December 1, 2010 at the age of 81 years. Erna was born to John and Helena Vogt on June 23, 1929. She was one of the first babies to be born in the first Steinbach Bethesda Hospital, started by her aunt Maria Vogt. She married Clifford Peters on July 18, 1948. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Penny and Barry. She was baptized at First Mennonite Church in Winnipeg on June 5, 1949. She was later received into the membership of St. Paul Lutheran Church on December 20, 1998. Erna was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Clifford on May 2, 1991, her parents and two brothers. She is survived by her beloved daughter Penny Bartel (Lester), and beloved son Barry (Joyce); grandchildren Daniel (Candace), Tami (Delvin Falk) and Lacey (Joel Martens) and Torrey; great grandchildren Cody, Talia, Trinity, Payton and Laynia, sister-in-law Helen Vogt, six nephews and two nieces. Erna wrote: “I thanked God many times for the good spouses by children married. I was always glad that it was still style to stay home when my children were small, just to be a Mom. “Because of my love of people – I always enjoyed my work, first with my brothers running Johnny’s Grill then with my husband in the Tourist Hotel. Later as a cashier at Reimer Pharmacy and Shoppers Drug Mart. It was a joy working with all the various people and meeting all the customers. “Also a big joy in my life was travelling, first with my husband and later alone. Seeing new places, meeting people of different cultures - how very wonderful!” Thank you to Dr. Minnaar and the first floor staff at Bethesda Hospital for the care given to Mom. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Steinbach.
