Obituary of Nickolas Kupiak
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Nick Kupiak at the age of 76 due to cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Olga, and their six children: Linda Kirkpatrick (Sean), Garry Kupiak (Cindy), Ken Kupiak, Carol Jantti (Bill), Larry Kupiak (Treena) and Sandra Giesbrecht (Terry). Also left to mourn are seven grandchildren: Ashley (Charles Squires), Raelene, Jayci, Kaitlyn, Austin, Aubrey and Alex Kupiak. He also leaves behind two sisters (Anne Mastaler and Kay Dalton) and a brother, Walter Kupiak (Vicki).
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Ksenia Kupiak, three sisters (Mary Kupiak, Ellen Kenyon and Jean Roed) and a brother (Pete Kupiak).
Nick was born in Winnipeg but lived his entire life in rural Manitoba. He married Olga Yakiwchuk in 1956 and they began mixed farming. Nick was self-employed most of his life. He owned and operated trucks and heavy equipment. His hobby was restoring antique tractors. He also enjoyed playing the accordion. For the past 24 years, Nick and Olga spent the winters in Brownsville, Texas.
Nick was well-respected, a generous man, honest and hard-working. He loved to read. He was witty and had a good sense of humour. He was hospitable, very fair in his dealings and gifted with practical wisdom. He was also a very spiritual man. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he firmly believed that God’s Kingdom government will soon bring an end to all sickness and death on earth, restoring the earth to peaceful paradise conditions. (Psalms 37:10,11; Rev. 21:3,4)
A private burial and memorial service took place on December 7, 2010. We thank Dr. Darren Reimer and the staff of Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach for the professional care they provided.
