Obituary of Mary Regehr

With family at her bedside, Mary Regehr passed away peacefully at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach on January 7, 2012. Mary was born in Muensterberg, Russia on March 05th 1919 to Abram and Elizabeth Regehr. Together with her parents and 5 sisters, Mary came to Canada in 1925 settling in the Winkler area. In the spring of 1926 the family moved to Steinbach. Mary attended public school grades 1-10, completed a secretarial course, followed by 3 years of Bible School at the Steinbach Bible Institute. Mary accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Saviour in her youth during a revival meeting. In 1934 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by her father, Rev. Abram A. Regehr and joined the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church. She remained a faithful contributing member of this church until the time of her passing. Mary enjoyed to travel! Together with her sister, Tina, they were privileged to visit many destinations in North and South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia and returning to Russia to see the place where her two brothers, Abram and Jacob had died in childhood. Travelogue in Winnipeg and bus tours were a very enjoyable pastime for Mary. She moved to Fernwood Place in 1992. The last two years she was in declining health. Mary had been a resident of the Rest Haven Nursing Home since June 23rd of last year. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers in childhood, three sisters, and six brothers-in-law. Left to mourn her passing are four sisters; Tina, Annie, Margaret of Steinbach, Lydia of Abbotsford, B.C., as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Bouquet of thanks to Doctors Mark Duerksen and Curtis Krahn and to the staff at St. Adolphe Personal Care Home and Rest Haven Nursing Home. The funeral will take place Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mennonite Brethren Church, 340 Second Street, Steinbach, with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
