Obituary of Robert James Wilson

Robert James (Jim) Wilson May 30, 1946 – January 21, 2007 At Ste. Anne Hospital, on January 21st, Jim Wilson of Steinbach, Manitoba passed away peacefully after his four year battle with cancer. Jim was predeceased by his father Ralph Wilson. He is survived by his four children, Scott (Carrie Schellenberg Wilson), Graham (Randi Loughlean), Brock and Kailey, and his grandson, Isaak. He is also survived by his mother Frances Wilson, his sisters, Janet Blake (Michael), Joanne Manning (Brian), and his best friend Christine Wiens. Jim is also survived by numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jim had a passion for teaching and passing on his knowledge and skills to everyone he met. He taught for 36 years at various schools and was employed at Steinbach Junior High as a Metals Technology teacher at the time of his passing. Teaching was a way of life for Jim. He approached his work with a constant drive and tenacity, always renewing his approaches and ideas to best meet his students’ needs. He will be missed by his students and colleagues. Jim loved his family and grandson. He always helped us in whatever way he could, and would give the shirt off his back for anyone. Jim always went above and beyond. He had a gift for working with his hands and could fix or build practically anything. One of Jim’s favorite pastimes was working on and driving his 1952 M38A military jeep. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and boating with his family and precious friend Christine. As per Jim’s wishes a private family service will be held on Thursday January 25th. There will be an open house reception for Jim’s family and friends to celebrate the memory of his life. All are invited to attend on Friday, January 26th, 3:00-5:00pm, at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Steinbach, 340 Second Street. The family sends a sincere thank you to the medical staff and Dr. de Moissac at the St Anne Hospital. Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba. “A Scots Toast” “May the best you’ve ever seen Be the worst you’ll ever see; May the mouse ne’er leave your girnal Wi’ a tear drop in its e’e; May your lum keep blithely reekin’ Till ye’re auld enough to dee; May you aye be just as happy As I wish you now to be!”
