Obituary of George D. Kehler

George Kehler went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 8th, 2013 with his wife at his side, at the age of 95. He leaves to mourn his wife Tina of 71 years, one daughter Tina (Jake) Giesbrecht, two sons Peter (Hildie) and George (Helen), 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind one brother Henry (Susan) Kehler. He was predeceased by his parents George U. and Catharina Kehler, six brothers, two sisters, and two granddaughters in infancy. George was born on August 6, 1918 in the RM of Hanover, Manitoba to George and Catharina Kehler. He married the love of his life Katharina D. Friesen on July 16th, 1942 and began farming in the Randolph area, which he did for several years. He also did some building construction work to help supplement their income. In later years he worked for Dairy Herd Improvement weighing and testing milk for farmers until his retirement. In his retirement he enjoyed working in his workshop restoring many toys, building shelves, small tables, rocking chairs, rocking horses and many other items for his family. Some of his hobbies included puzzling and Sudoku games. They moved off their farm to Mitchell in 1972 and lived there until their move to Steinbach in 1980. Due to his failing health George was recently moved to the Rest Haven Nursing Home in October 2013. The family would like to thank Dr. Porath and the staff at the Rest Haven Nursing Home for the excellent care he received. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba with interment to follow at Mitchell Gospel Church Cemetery, Mitchell, Manitoba. If friends so desire, donations in memory of George may be made to a charity of one's choice.
