In the early hours of January 23, 2012 Herta J. Voth peacefully went into the arms of her Lord. Born in Russia on January 3, 1923, she was the second of ten children. She came to Canada with her family in 1925, growing up in Springstein, Manitoba. The Nurses Training Herta received at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg opened up a lifetime of service for her in many places, including Canada, Columbia, Panama, and Bolivia. After returning to Canada, she adopted a family to become a mother and grandmother to Mukai, Rujeko and Tinaye Muza, and continued to care for and serve many others, motivated at all times by her deep faith in God. She was predeceased by her parents Johannes and Katherina Voth, brothers Alvin and Toby, sister Holdina, brother-in-law Peter Wiebe, and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family members Walter and Lena Voth, Lena Voth, Vera Voth, John and Martha Voth, Susanna Voth Wiebe, Ben and Erna Falk, Walt and Edith Wichert, and George and Kae Froese; by Mukai, Rejeiko and Tinaye Muza; and by three generations of nieces and nephews. She was our inspiration, just as she inspired all who crossed her paths. While mourning her passing, we rejoice that she is at home with her heavenly Father. A viewing will be held at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg on Thursday January 26th 2012 at 7:00-9:00 p.m. with a short time of guided reflection beginning at 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Portage Avenue Church, on Friday January 27th 2012 at 2:00 p.m. to be followed by a reception at the church. A private interment will precede the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Mennonite Brethren Mission & Service International or The Gideons International.
