Obituary of Frank Harms

On Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba, aged 82 years, Frank was taken home to be with his Lord and Saviour. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dorothy, his sons, Larry, Allan (Christal), and Lloyd (Michelle); grandchildren, Jonathan, Serena, Amanda, Abigail, Genevieve, and Aaron; brothers and sisters, Lydia (Henry), Peter (Clara), Henry (Elsie), Jake (Elsie), and Margret. Frank was predeceased by his parents, John and Sara Harms; his brother, John; and sister, Anne. Frank was born on a farm near Steinbach, MB on May 16, 1929. Frank grew up on his parents’ farm, and moved to a farm less than a mile away when he married his beloved wife Anne in 1954. Having grown up during the depression and Second World War, Frank learned that the only way to make your way in the world was through hard work. Through much of his working life, he worked a full time job in addition to working on his farm which was a full-time job in itself. Frank was a straightforward and private man who let his actions, rather than words, speak for him. He was proud and particular. When he built something, it was often overdesigned such that it would not ever fail. In the same way, he would not fail you; his word was all you needed. Frank had a very keen sense of what he believed, there were not very many shades of grey. However, as firm in his beliefs as he was, he was very accepting of sons’ choices in life even though they would not have been his. Frank's values will live on through his family. In 1998 they sold their farm and moved to a condominium on Main Street in Steinbach. In 2002 Frank's life changed forever when the love of his life, Anne passed away. He was never the same. Frank married Dorothy in 2003; in her he had a loving companion who provided him great comfort in the remaining years of his life. Frank, we will all miss you very much. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church in Grunthal. Viewing will be at the Christian Fellowship Church in Steinbach on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. Interment in Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.ca), or to the Grunthal Bergthaler Church Benevolent Fund (www.grunthalbergthaler.com).
