Obituary of Ernest Giesbrecht

Ernest Giesbrecht peacefully went to heaven on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the age of 84 at Bethesda Place in Steinbach, Manitoba. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 12 years, Elma, and her children: Karen, Russ, Sylvia, Paul, Ron, Diana, Barb, Pete and 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. His children: Jo-Anne, Edward, Geordie, Kim and 3 grandchildren: Karli, Jessica and Abigail. His sisters: Minna and Lottie and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by both parents, 10 siblings and his first wife of 42 years, Hilda (nee Rempel). Ernest’s careers included bee keeping, long distance truck driver and carpentry, all of which he was very skilled at and enjoyed immensely. Ernest’s hobbies were many, which included downhill skiing which he started at the age of 50 years old, to mountain biking, water and cross country skiing, roller coaster riding and even para-sailing at the age of 73! His love for action and adventure certainly shone through. Some of his other wonderful qualities, which all must remember, are his meaningful conversations and wit, the jokes he loved to tell and the way he loved his family unconditionally. A special Thank You to Dr. Borys and staff at the Movement Clinic in Winnipeg, Manitoba and to Dr. Kaethler, Paula Enns, Larry Hurst, Shauna Funk, Pat Ticknor and the wonderful caring nursing staff of Bethesda Place. A memorial service will be held at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main Street, Steinbach, Manitoba at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 21,2012.
