Obituary of Joan Ruud

The Lord wrapped her in his arms with her family by her side with quiet dignity and prayer. Joan was born a twin with her brother John in Vita, Manitoba .She spent her childhood years in Piney but later lived, raised and loved her own family in South Junction. Left to treasure her memory is her husband and sweetheart Lloyd of 62 years; her children Gloria Halwachs (Alfred), Robert (Naomi), Richard (Kim), Ronald (Elwyn), Rodney (Kim), Pamela Downing (Tim), Wanda Barker (Wayne) and Jim. Mom was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Claude, sisters-in-law Lil, Vicki, Maureen and families. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Ron and John (her twin), daughter Kathy and grandson Greg. She will be fondly remembered for her joy and excitement at the birth of every new baby. Mom was famous for her bread, buns and lefse which her family fought over. She always said “Dad and I have made a ton of lefse over the years.” She was a real people person who loved spending time with old friends and traveling to meet new ones, never afraid to strike up conversations with strangers. She attended and was active in her church in Sprague, the Lion's Club and Seniors Games. She loved golf and curling for many years and later bowling where she won The Canadian Senior Championship. Special thank you to Dr. Earle, Dr. Wowk and nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, Manitoba. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the International Fellowship Church in Piney with ash interment at the Wampum Cemetery.
