After a courageous battle with cancer, Nickolas Chubey passed away at the Vita Personal Care Home with his family at his side on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the age of 88. He was born in 1923. Dad (Nickolas) will be remembered by his wife, Jean, of 58 years. He is survived by one son, Jeffery of Winnipeg, (Misty, Amanda and Kyle), by his sister Violet Zinyk (Victor) and their family, sisters-in-law Ann Chubey of St. Malo and Mary Chubey of Carlowrie, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew, Mike, Paul, Peter, Harry, Wasyl, Steve, and sisters, Marie Rostosky, Effie Christiuk, and Nellie Ostrowsky. Dad worked as a paver operator for 35 years with Maple Leaf Construction and Borland Construction. He was a member of Birchwood Funeral Chapel and the Rosa Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr, Steinbach on Monday, February 27th at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.
