Obituary of Rollin Reimer

On March 14, 2012, after a brief illness, Rollin Reimer was called home to meet his heavenly Father. He will be sadly missed by his wife Elma, his children, Marilyn O’Hara of Kenora, Judith Larsen of Washington DC, Robert and Sylvia Reimer of Steinbach, Susan and Kel Zacharias of Winnipeg, his nine granddaughters and their families, Erin O’Hara, Meghan and Rick Hermann, Morgen, Jared and Addison Carillo, Allison Larsen, Taylor Larsen, Mandy Reimer, Jessica Reimer, Jill, Chris, and ‘little’ Rollin Sawatzky, and Amy Zacharias. Also left to mourn are his brother, Howard (Brigitte) Reimer, brothers-in-law Art (Wilma) Kroeker, Chris Christenson, Milton Penner, Gilbert (Heather) Penner, and John (Ruth) Barkman, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Justina Reimer, son-in-law Thorbjorn Larsen, three sisters Viola, Romelda, and Kathy, brother Wesley, sisters- in-law Martha, Adina, Marlene and Joanne, his brothers-in-law Morris and Edmar, and niece Beverly. Rollin and Elma attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha Nebraska. Rollin spent 15 years in Ethiopia in ministry as a missionary builder with the Sudan Interior Mission. Upon returning to Canada he spent 10 years with the Hanover School Division and 9 years with the River East School Division as the Director of Maintenance. He was a mentor in all his work and developed lasting friendships. Rollin was a charter member and a leader in the Steinbach Evangelical Free Church serving as elder, board member and missions director. The spiritual and social relationships he nurtured there were a meaningful part of his life. He was married for 65 years to Elma Penner, his high school sweetheart. He liked to say, “I used to push Elma’s doll carriage and later pushed her baby carriage.” Theirs was a long and loving marriage. Rollin often mentioned with a smile that he was the boss and Elma was the manager. They were truly a team. As his children, we were always certain that Dad’s love was unlimited and unconditional. He was our greatest cheerleader and he was so proud of each of us. Grampa’s nine granddaughters were his pride and joy. He would frequently make this distinction, “we don’t have only granddaughters, we have granddaughters only. “ He welcomed all three grandsons-in-law into the family with love. Rollin’s strong faith and hope in God were unshakable to the very end. His lasting impact on so many individuals will be immeasurable. In Rollin, we saw a life joyfully lived in God’s presence, and now we know he is experiencing that joy completely and forever. A special thanks to Dr. Curtis Krahn for his help and friendship and to the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital Nursing Staff. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Funeral on Monday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Ave., Steinbach, with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
