After a fall on January 4, 2012 in which she broke her hip, Kay Funk rapidly deteriorated and finally passed away peacefully on March 18, 2012 at the age of 94. Left to cherish her memory are nine of her surviving children, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Martin Funk, and then later by her second husband Peter Funk, her oldest son, Lawrence, who passed away on May 2, 2007, her daughter-in-law Helen, and her grandson Todd. Mom will be remembered for her tenacity, for her commitment and undying love for her children, and her amazing sense of humour. When she fell and broke her hip, it happened in her haste to help someone else at Rest Haven. Mom suffered from dementia for many years but never lost that sense of humour, even during the last few months of her life. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach.
