Obituary of Jacob Dyck

Jacob Dyck passed away peacefully at Boundary Trails Health Centre on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the age of 87 years. He was born February 13, 1925 in Melba School District, north of Horndean, in the R. M. of Rhineland, MB, to Peter J. and Katharina Dyck. Publicly acknowledging his faith in Jesus Christ, he was baptized in Rosenfeld by Bishop Willhelm H. Falk in 1945. He married Helena Neufeld on June 9, 1949 and they shared life for 39 years. Mom died in 1988 and a year later he married Tina Enns. They spent two years together. In December 2000 Dad married Maria Heinrichs. They enjoyed almost 5 years of companionship before Mary passed away in August of 2005. Dad and Mom started their married life in Altona. From there they moved to Gnadenthal where they owned and operated the General Store until 1961. They farmed for a few years in the Amsterdam and Roseville School Districts. Dad then worked for Red River Valley Mutual Insurance Co. In 1970 the family moved to Winkler to manage the Triangle Oasis complex – a great opportunity for his children who were teenagers at the time to begin their working careers. After leaving ‘the Oasis’ he continued to be involved in several other business ventures in Winkler. Dad was active as a volunteer on school boards, Red River Valley Mutual Ins. Co. board of directors, at Grace Mennonite Church, Winkler Chamber of Commerce and Salem Home. He will be remembered most for his selfless love and concern for others. He is survived by his daughter Sharon (John) Wiebe of Steinbach and their sons Ryan (Josée) and Corey (Heather); his son Gordon (Barb) of Winkler and their daughters Jessica (Jason) King and Gina; and his daughter Valerie (Henry) Guenther of Winkler and their children Chrissy (Troy) Sweeney [Sabrina & Charles], David (Melissa) and Mathew (Sylvia). He is also survived by one sister Susan (David) Peters, one brother George (Rosa) and sisters-in-law Marie Dyck and Elma Dyck. Besides his wives he was predeceased by sisters Rosa Dyck and Laura (Dave) Zacharias and brothers Isaak, Waldo, Peter (Eileen) and John. The home going service was held Saturday, March 31 at 11:30 a.m. at Grace Mennonite Church in Winkler with interment at Winkler Cemetery. We would like thank the homecare workers at Lions Court and the doctors and nursing staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for the excellent care given to Dad. You were such a blessing to him and to the family.
