We overlapped with Otto and Elaine in Hualien for one year, 1979-80, where we had the pleasure of teaching Randy and enjoying the company of Otto and Elaine and their family on many occasions. We have fond memories of Otto and of our time in Taiwan. Otto exuded a special energy and we remember him for the ways he got us involved in the church community, for leading us in exploration of Taiwan, for his sense of fun, (even if not everyone thinks it fun to be jogging in the noon day Taiwan sun) and for his sense of pride and love for the community he was part of in Taiwan. In the one year that we interacted with Otto, he modeled and taught us a lot about how to live as guests in another country.

Dear Doris, Steven, Randall and Family, Otto loved the Lord and served faithfully at Niagara United Mennonite Church. We loved Otto and appreciated the numerous ways he supported and guided our family through marriage, births, church involvement and death. His cheerful heart and sense of humour endeared him to us. May fond memories of special moments with Otto comfort you and give you peace at this sad time.

Dear Doris and family,
During the time that Otto was with us the first time at St. Cathrines United Mennonite Church, Otto boarded with me in my house. I officially adopted him as a brother. When Sandra and I got married, he moved out to a house with Elaine that they just bought. The last time I saw him, he still said “Hi Brother”. We had some nice chats those days and inspired me to be more involved in the church. I even did a few sermons in the early 80’s. I am still very much involved in the work of our church and I can attribute some of that to Otto.
We will all miss his humour and laugh.
God bless Otto. God bless you and the family as you prepare for the memorial service this week.
Love, Alvin & Sandra
