Enns was born on February 20, 1915 in the village of Talma (No.3) in the Terek settlement, in the Caucasus region of Russia. In February 1918, before his third birthday, the settlement had to be evacuated one night, and he never saw his birthplace again. Frank came to Canada with his family in1926, who settled on a farm south of Lena in fall of 1926. He attended the Gretna Mennonite Collegiate Institute after he completed Grade VIII at Plum Hollow School in 1930. He graduated from the MCI in 1933 and from the Winnipeg Normal School in 1934. He started his teaching career at Arden Hutterite Colony in 1934 and came to know Susann Klassen when she came to practice teach at the Rosenort (near Gretna) Public School where he was teaching. Frank was registered as a conscientious objector in World War II, directed to leave his university studies, and returned to the classroom. Frank and Susann were married on March 27, 1943. They left teaching to farm near Lena for the years 1946 - 1951. Frank and Susann returned to teaching in Blumenfeld in 1951. Frank taught for 34 years, 8 of them in the Gretna MCI. He served as principal in the Gretna Public School, briefly returned to the MCI before going on to teach at W. C. Miller Collegiate in Altona. He concluded his teaching career in 1975 at Niverville Collegiate. Frank F. Enns was baptized on his confession of faith in the Whitewater Mennonite church by his father on July 9, 1933, and was ordained a minister of the Church in 1951 by Reverend G.G. Neufeld who had also officiated at Frank and Susann’s wedding. Frank and Susann moved to Fort Richmond in 1968 and became members of the Glenlea Mennonite Church on April 18, 1971. Frank was elected leading minister of the Glenlea Mennonite Church in 1975. On August 28, 1977 he was ordained as Ältester by the Elders G.G. Neufeld and Jacob Toews. In 1985 he asked the congregation to release him from leadership and administration responsibilities though he continued to preach. Susann, his life partner died in August 2000. He missed her dearly, remaining in Fort Richmond for another year before moving to Lindenwood Manor in February 2001. Frank felt God’s presence throughout his life. He has remarked that through all the years, the Lord has been good to him and to his family. His last years have underscored what he often experienced: “for my strength is made perfect in weakness” better said in German: “Meine Kraft ist in den Schwachen mächtig,” 2.Cor. 12:9 The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter Ave., Winnipeg with viewing prior to the service.
