Obituary of Jeannine Curtis

Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the second of seven children of William and Jessie (Jay) Ahronson. She grew up in Fort Rouge, where she met Wilf. Jean and Wilf were married on December 29th, 1951. As Dad was transferred to Flin Flon with the Manitoba Government Telephone System, their honeymoon was spent on the train travelling to their new life. Dad’s work led them to many locations in Manitoba, before settling in Steinbach in 1959. Here they raised seven children. Mom was very active in the community. She was a Kinette and a proud member and President of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary. Most importantly, she was a homemaker, and housemom to her kids’ friends. Dad and Mom enjoyed trips to Australia, Barbados, the East Coast, and the U.S. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Mom is survived by her loving husband Wilf, and her children Sheila (Grant McVicar), Tom (Margie), Lauren (Rob Bilbey), Janet (Peter Cobden), Norm (Beve), Phil (Deidra), and Murray (Melanie), as well as 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Bud, Dave and Rick, sister Vera, and brother-in-law Hugh. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Scott, Dale, Shane, T-Jay, Jamie, Steven, Tom, and Steven. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach. Donations may be made to Haven Group (Rest Haven Nursing Home), 177 Woodhaven Ave, Steinbach, MB, R5G 1K7, The Lung Association of Manitoba, 629 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6, or to a charity of one’s choice.
