Obituary of Edna Penner

Edna Penner was born to John T. and Anna Fast Reimer on March 23, 1921 at Clearspring, Manitoba. She peacefully departed this life on April 11, 2012 at Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB, reaching the age of 91 years. Mom gave her life to the Lord and was baptized by Minister Jac Friesen on November 26, 1935. She encountered spiritual struggles during her life but the church was always precious to her and she remained faithful to the end. Mom started working at the neighbours at a very young age. She spoke of her experiences working in the local bakery before taking LPN training. She worked as a nurse at Bethesda Hospital and later used her nursing skills in the mission in Mexico, spending a total of 10 years in that country. She regaled us with endless entertaining stories about her life and times in a country she loved, and whose language she learned especially well. On December 27, 1967 she married our father, Harvey Penner at Steinbach, MB and became our mother. During the early years of their married life Chris Stevenson came to live with us and became a part of the family. We appreciated the companionship Mom and Dad shared, and the role she played as Mother, and later as Grandmother, in our lives. Dad and Mom shared life’s joys and sorrows for more than 37 years. When Dad passed away, Mom was left to carry on alone. Those left to cherish fond memories are two daughters, Julietta and her husband Monroe Goossen of Hyas, Saskatchewan, Nealda of Ste. Anne, MB, one son, Christopher Stevenson of Peguis, MB, six grandchildren and their families, Stewart and Ruth, Tamara and Kelly Penner, Leslee and Shawn Penner, Richard and Natalie, Shawn, Trevor and Starla; her siblings Mary Froese, Steinbach, Dan and Mary Reimer, Steinbach, Gladys Eidse, Enderby, BC, Jessie Reimer, Steinbach; seven sisters-in-law, Nellie Penner, Esther Penner, Linda Penner, Mary Penner, Elma and Robert Toews, Lottie Penner and Irene Penner. Her husband, her parents, three sisters and brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Greenland, MB. Officiating ministers were Jesse Friesen, Edgar Wohlgemuth, Melvin Penner, Elroy Penner, and Samuel Friesen. Burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery.
