Peacefully, with his loving wife at his side, Peter passed away at home on April 18, 2012 at the age of 83. Peter was born near Steinbach, MB and grew up on a farm near Niverville. On July 1, 1950 he laid eyes on the love of his life and never let her go. Peter and Dorothy were married on April 27, 1951 and cherished the next 61 years together. Peter worked hard in every aspect of life but his true measure of success was in nurturing a wonderful marriage and lovingly raising a family, instilling values of honesty, integrity, respect and the rewards of hard work. This surpassed every other goal or dream he had and the depths of his love for his family were boundless. His arms were always unconditionally opened wide to any new members that found their way into the fold whether by birth or marriage. Peter and Dorothy spent many of their years working side by side in their business as well as enjoying countless travel adventures together across North America; they loved the tropics of Hawaii and they loved a good road trip. In 2008 Peter began a battle with cancer which he would valiantly overcome but it would take a great toll on his health and strength. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, two sons, Gerald and Cal (Linda) and one daughter Brenda Sawatzky (Allan), seven grandchildren and their spouses, Kristy (Taran), Karis (Tim), Kelsey (Clark), Courtney, Cody (Kristen), Scott and Alexa and five great-grandchildren, Rhea, Kade, Gracie, Noah and Nate. He is also survived by two sisters, Margaret and Hilda. He is predeceased by his son Allan Donald, four brothers and two sisters. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.
