I have many fond memories of Eddie starting from when I was probably about 6 or 7 years old. Eddie sold me bicycle parts from his Red & White Store when I was about 8 years old, I remember him always being very patient and kind. I enjoyed watching Eddie perform magic on the pitching mound for the Generals and also being a star defensemen on the Red Wings. I was beside myself when I eventually ended up being able to play beside Ed on the Grunthal Red Wings. It seemed like a community event when Ed & Margaret had a wedding party at the newly built Grunthal Auditorium.... I always wondered if I was even invited, but I was there! Eddie always impressed me with his humble nature, and was always someone I looked up to with respect and admiration. My deepest condolences to Margaret and Family.

Uncle Ed was always happy to see his nieces and nephews. I remember going for a quick Hello last year. My sister couldn’t do the stairs so we had a visit sitting in the front yard. What started as a quick stop turned into a rather long and happy visit. They were also always happy to see my folks and treated them with such care and respect. Dad is his brother John. I’m sure they’re all together now and playing hockey happily, all the Guenther boys on the same line. Rest In Peace Uncle. Sincere condolences and much love to Aunt Margaret, Ken, Jeff, Carol and their families.

Mr. Guenther was the kindest and friendliest man who always made me feel so special whenever I came to Manitoba from Vancouver to visit Jeff and Dolores. He was the type of person who made an effort to get to know you, asking questions, and sought you out if he knew you were in a new situation. It’s evident he was so loved by everyone who ever met him. Heaven just gained another angel! May God give you peace during this difficult time.

Ed Guenther was a man of beauty, grace and fine character. The depth of character and intelligence were always evident in his interactions with the public. We have often discussed his plans for the growth and the image of the town of Grunthal. Ed understood what it took to create community and to build for the future.
It was amazing to watch Ed play hockey; I can still see him coming up to the blue line along the boards, carrying the puck, time seemed to stop as Ed moved around opposing players with an ebb and flow as smooth as if he was moving on a river of ice.
Ed told us the story of the days when he used to play ball back in the 40s. Ed was a teenager and on Saturdays, Steve Block would drive up to the store. He told Ed he needed to get his glove for a ball tournament. Ed said he wouldn’t be able to go, he had to work in the store. Steve said, “I’ll take care of it” and minutes later Ed was in uniform, riding in the back of one-ton truck with board rails with the rest of team, off to Lancaster, Vita, Sundown wherever the game was being played. Every photograph of Ed playing ball has Ed cradling his elbow in his ball glove, keeping his elbow arm for pitching the game.
Working with Ed on the Grunthal Hall of Fame Sports Committee was an honour and a great opportunity to get to know a Grunthal legend.

So sorry for your loss!
I loved your Dad. I enjoyed conversations we had, especially about how dedicated he was to this great town of Grunthal. He always had great advice and was the most honest man I know. He will be missed.
Love and prayers go out to you Margaret and to your family.

Dorothy and I want to send our most sincerest condolences to Margaret, Ken, Jeff, Carol and their family's. We have both known Ed our entire lives. I've had the pleasure of watching Ed play hockey and baseball. There was no finer individual in either sport. I am just so happy that I was able to be a small part in getting Ed inducted into the Grunthal Sports Hall of Fame. All the memories we were able to share, and all the people that got together to share them, it was truly a memorable occasion. There are too many memories to list, just know that he will be missed. The trio are now all gone. That is a sad day.

Anne and I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family during this very difficult time of loss. as a boy i would go to the store with my dad and i always liked Eddy even as i was a young lad. he was a likable guy what i saw. always friendly and my father respected him. then as i grew up and went to Grunthal collegiate, we would go to the store at lunch hour. i would take things that did not belong to me and would have made my father very unhappy. later when i changed my life and i was married, i went to see Eddy one day, to talk. he invited me into his office and i told him about me taking stuff and i wanted to pay for them. to make a longer story shorter, he assured me of his forgiveness and that, "we have all done things we regret". i have met him many times since in grunthal and Steinbach restaurant and also Tim hortens. He always greeted me with a smile and "good to see you, Andy". He impacted my life.

So sorry to hear about the passing of a great man of integrity. I have such fond memories from childhood when my dad took us to Guenther hardware. He always mentioned what an honest, kindhearted and soft spoken man Ed. was. He was a real pillar of the community of Grunthal. My heart goes out to you, the Guenther family and I pray for you to find peace and hope in these difficult days.
