Obituary of Emily Wohlgemuth

Emily Wohlgemuth was born to Frank L. and Elisabeth Isaac on June 26, 1928, at Hochstadt, Manitoba.

Her journey ended on May 20, 2020, at Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Manitoba.

Mom was the middle child of seven siblings. She had an enjoyable childhood, speaking fondly of walking through the pasture with her siblings and neighbour children on their way to school.

At the age of 15 she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, at Kleefeld, Manitoba. She remained true to these vows and showed by example that her trust was in the Lord.  Mom lived in the present, facing and accepting the challenges of life in a forthright and stoic way.  She had a servant heart and when there was a need, she gave herself untiringly to whatever task was at hand. Her motto was…Learn from your mistakes and go on.

In her youth, Mom worked at a cannery in Ontario for two seasons, helped many a busy mother as “maid”, and accompanied her parents on an extended trip to Mexico.

Mom married our father, Winston Wohlgemuth, at Kleefeld, Manitoba, on July 17, 1955. They shared over 60 years together, until Dad passed away in May of 2016. Our parents, with their four daughters made their home at Steinbach, Manitoba. We children have many pleasant memories of our years on the farm at Twin Creek. Mom was an enthusiastic gardener, often sharing the fruits of her labour.

In 1989, our parents sold the family farm and moved to their retirement home in Steinbach. Then in August, 2018, Mom moved into Maplewood Manor. We as a family are especially grateful for the last days we were privileged to spend at her side. We have special memories of her sweet smile.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters: Phyllis, Lorene and Ken Giesbrecht, Helen, Rachel, Ken’s children and grandchildren, her brother, John and Florence Isaac. The Wohlgemuth family: Stanley Barkman, Mildred Penner, Olive Toews, Johnnie Warkentin, Norman and Darleen Wohlgemuth, Libby Wohlgemuth, Frances Goossen.   

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, four brothers, and one sister.

A Come & Go viewing will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. 

Covid 19 restrictions will be in place and only 25 people at a time will be allowed.

A private family funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Steinbach, MB. 

Private family burial will take place at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
