Obituary of Judith Krahn

I, Judith Krahn, was born to my parents Peter Neufeld and Agatha Wiens on May 15, 1919, at Swift Current, Saskatchewan. At four years of age I moved to Chihuahua, Mexico with my parents. I received my schooling in Burwalde, Swift Current Colony, Mexico. I was baptized on the confession of my faith in Jesus Christ, my Saviour, on May 28, 1939. On January 21, 1940, I entered the bond of Holy matrimony with Gerhard P. Krahn. We shared joys and sorrow for 39 years and 8 months. During this time we were blessed with 7 sons, 8 daughters and 24 grandchildren. In 1957 we moved to Matheson, Ontario. On March 18, 1959, my husband was ordained as a minister of the gospel in the Reinland Mennonite Church by Bishop Cornelius Nickel. In April of 1965 we moved to Rainy River, Ontario where we operated a dairy farm. My husband passed away on the 28th of September, 1979, while working on the farm. I continued farming with some of the children until I moved toGrunthal, Manitoba on October 19, 1994. I have had a fairly healthy life until a year ago when I lost my ability to walk. My two daughters, Helena and Aganetha, made sure I was well taken care of. I have lived as a widow for 32 years and 7 months. I feel like the apostle Paul, who, in 2 Timothy 4:7 and 8, said, “I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day." I was predeceased by my husband, Gerhard Krahn, on September 28, 1979. I was also predeceased by an 8 month old son in 1946, one daughter-in-law in 2003 and one grand-daughter-in-law in 2009. I am survived by 6 sons, 8 daughters and their families. The sons are: Peter from Winkler, George from Winkler, John from Ignace, Ontario, Henry from Winkler, Herman from Rainy River, Ontario and Jake from Chortitz. The daughters are: Agatha Peters from Schanzenfeld, Katharina Krahn from Grunthal, Anna Hamm from Tolstoi, Edith Penner from Rainy River, Ontario, Margaret Janzen from Rainy River, Ontario, Maria Martens from Grunthal, Aganetha Krahn from Grunthal and Helena Krahn from Grunthal. Descended from these families are 73 grandchildren and 71 great-grandchildren. Hebrews 4:9, 10 reads: “There remaineth, therefore, a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His.” Our mother went to her eternal rest on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at approximately 6:20 p.m. She lived a long and full life of 92 years, 11 months and 13 days. Of the siblings and siblings-in-law on the Neufeld side, she was the last one to depart; on the Krahn side she is survived by one brother-in-law. As a minister’s wife she enjoyed practicing her gift of hospitality and serving others. Her life was not always easy. Some of us recall her singing to herself as she went through difficult times, “Welt ade, Ich bin dein Muede, Ich will nach dem Himmel zu...” As a family, we are glad that she is at rest. We would like to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers and support as we lay the earthly body of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to rest. Viewing will be held at the Reinland Mennonite Church, Grunthal, MB on Tuesday, May 1 at 7:00 with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, New Bothwell, MB with interment at the Reinland Church Cemetery. If friends so desire donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Reinland Mennonite Church, Grunthal, MB.
