Robert (Jamie) Jamieson Bilbey

Obituary of Robert (Jamie) Jamieson Bilbey

We are heart-broken to announce that our Jamie passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.  Missed and dearly loved by Mom and Daddio, (Lauren and Rob Bilbey), sister Jessie, and his adored, rescued dog Sadie, as well as many family and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Doris and Bob Bilbey and Jeannine Curtis.

Jamie was born May 19, 1989 and his sister immediately became his best friend and protector.  His internal clock meant early to bed and early to rise, completely opposite of his sister.  Many early weekend mornings as a toddler he would call to Jess and she would set up a long tape of cartoons he could watch from his crib.  Many times we would ask a waitress to hurry his supper, and many times it would come too late.

Jamie loved his friends as family and he loved his coworkers at MB Hydro.  He was Uncle Bil to the kids of his friends, witty, funny, oh so kind, would crack you up with one-liners and always had a huge genuine smile when he saw you.  “His laugh would make your eyebrows smile”. His hugs were huge, tight and long.

Jamie loved us and we knew it. He also loved hockey from the time he could skate, always a Mitchell Mohawk, loved his Red Bull team and the Hat Tricks.  His ’93 Mustang was his pride and joy. He loved all seafood, a very rare steak, and was a great cook. He cherished many adventures in Northern, MB.  He was into astral photography and took astounding pictures.

Recently Jamie became interested in exploring abandoned mines near Grand Forks, BC. He so enjoyed the mountains and lakes. This September he took his mom and sis back there, guiding us up the mountain and into the mines, so we could experience his love, and meet a special friend.

Jamie’s battle with depression was long and painful, but he wasn’t alone. He shared his story with trusted friends and family, all of whom would and did drop everything to support him. He tried many avenues of help and when one route didn’t give him the peace he sought, he would try another.  If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever.

Honorary pallbearers are Danica and Luke Bergmann, Carter Friesen, Bryce Marmus, Kyle Okapiec, Shane Froese and Justin (Kessel) Dueck.

Besides family, friends and coworkers, we would like to thank the RCMP, Paramedics, ER staff with special thanks to Pam G., Dr. Ilchyna, MB Hydro, and everyone who sent flowers, food and messages. Flowers are gratefully declined.

Donations may be made to Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Ave., Winnipeg or St. Raphael Wellness Centre, 2nd floor, 225 Vaughan St. Winnipeg.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. Due to the Covid restrictions the service will be by invitation only. Jamie would want everyone to be safe, masks will be mandatory and available at the door. We understand if you are unable to attend due to Covid concerns.
