Obituary of Effie Henzel

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Effie Henzel, on Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, at the age of 87 years. Left to cherish mom’s memory are her children: Joan Patrick, Larry (Marcia) Henzel, Marlene (Ed) Friesen, Judy (Ken) Holme, Edie (Allan) Butland, and Bev (Cliff) Schmidtke; 13 grandchildren: Derrick (Kathy) Patrick, Wendy Melnyk, Jennifer (Tom) Bessinger, Temara (Troy) Pidsadny, Robin (Norm) Paisley, Michelle (Russ) Plett, Felicia (Ernie) Christ, Kyle (Lynzie) Friesen, Kara (Gil) Friesen, Bailey Butland, Dale Butland, Lee (Rachel) Schmidtke, and Tiffany (Keith) Broesky; as well as 25 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Mom also leaves behind two sisters Kay Trachuk and Ollie Trachuk, and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband Carl in 1985, one grandson Kevin Holme (1991) and one son-in-law Taras Patrick (2006); her parents Michael and Anna Michalski; two brothers Peter Michalsky and Bill Michalski. Mom was born on May 7, 1925, in Senkiw, MB. She grew up in St. Germain, married Dad in 1943 and moved to Pansy, MB. In 1955, Mom and Dad moved to Steinbach, where Mom resided until this last year, when she moved in with Bev & Cliff. Mom’s first priority was always her family and this was her greatest source of pride and joy. Mom was a tireless worker who loved gardening and was well known for her famous Henzel garlic pickles, fantastic perogies and braided bread. She also loved driving her car (her second home), dancing and playing cards. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. Prayers will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with interment at the St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery in Pansy, MB. Everyone is invited to attend a dinner in Mom’s honour at the Pansy Hall immediately following the interment.
