I found this poem on line and I loved what it said and reminded me of my own dad and his characteristics.

Memories of Dad:
I would have love to have been with my family in person as they celebrated the life of dad, grandpa, and friend. It is unfortunate that this has happened with the health situations and restrictions we have at this time. However, I want to share some wonderful memories which will last a lifetime!
I remember as a young girl that I missed dad when he was away for a few days because of work. When he came home, and I had hurt myself ...or was it that I just wanted his attention? Whatever it was, he would be willing to help and try to massage it into place. Dad was a caring man.
Sometimes on Sunday after church while waiting for lunch I would sit on my dad's lap and comb his hair. I felt that we had a special bond.
Another memory from my childhood is when he would make a trip to CT Loewen Building Center to talk to others regarding building construction. I would love to go with him. He would often say before going "Well 'younges'(boys) are you ready?" (say it in German). I loved going with dad and my brothers on those trips. On one occasion I said to my dad, "I am not a "younges" and we laughed.
When I was not living for the Lord in my teens he was concerned and prayed for me and rejoiced when I accepted Christ and moved back home.
As a family we travelled several times, I could see how much he enjoyed it.
My best memories of my dad are when he came to BC to visit. We had a great time together!
Dad loved socializing and having coffee, specifically in the last several years. On one of my trips to Manitoba I took him out for coffee for the first time. Then after his first stroke while in the hospital I would bring him coffee which he so enjoyed! He also loved eating out and the two of us would have dinner at Chicken Chef, one of his favorite restaurants.
While living in BC I missed my dad a lot and stayed in touch. We had a closeness and an understanding that I will always treasure. He was a sweet dad, very patient and kind. He was a great example of Christ to me. On our many phone conversations we would share the words "I Love You", especially in recent years and during his last days.
Now that he has passed, I have precious memories of him. He was a wonderful dad and will be greatly missed. I celebrate his life and rejoice that he is with his Heavenly Father.
With all my love,
Jeannette

Uncle Ben is someone I will remember as a gentle and kind, a man who was patient and solid in his faith. You always had a smile and a thoughtful word. A man of honour.

To My Special Dad
Written for Father's Day in 2007
My Memories
In my mind as a younger child...
waiting for dad to come home from a hard days work
waiting for dad to fly a kite during a short lunch break
waiting for dad in the car and trying to stay awake
waiting for dad to finish building a cart for a pet
waiting for dad to have a fun game of hide and seek
In my mind in my growing up years...
waiting for dad's word of approval
waiting for dad to speak his mind
waiting for dad's glance to mine
waiting for dad to understand my feelings
waiting for dad to acknowledge my growing up
In my mind as an adult...
Dad is there to listen and hear my perspective
Dad is reaching out to show he cares
Dad is giving a quiet recognition with a smile
Dad is helping me with his great expertise
Dad is more than a mysterious shadow
In my mind I ponder...
There is a lot about dad I don't know;
therefore, kind of like getting to know God.
Behind a quiet nature of strength and guidance
lies wisdom and knowledge with years of experience
and a special kind of love that never dies.
Love,
Your daughter, Lorna

I'll miss all your smiles and belly laughs
And your sense of humour that never lapsed
Your cooking skills what can I say
Made it obvious you had to pray
Microwave oatmeal was your finest dish
Nuts for dessert was your one true wish
You went to men's lunches and coffee time meetings
You saw people you knew and gave them your greetings
Going for your walks was a pleasure to do
It was a challenge sometimes to try and find you
God gave you challenges that you took in stride
You worked very hard and you did so with pride
I remember the first time you said to me
Where's my hug? I gave one gladly
For many years you were my Dad to adore
Cause I missed my own since 84
The years have flown since we first met
I'll always remember and I'll never forget
I love you Dad
