Obituary of Jacqueline Marie Davies

With immense sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Jacqueline Marie Davies (Berard) of La Broquerie MB on December 2nd, 2020 at the age of 90.

Loved always by husband Ross who could be heard telling Mom that she was the prettiest girl he ever knew with the most beautiful blue eyes.

A heart of gold stopped beating and the ripples softly flow – endless in the lessons left behind.  Mom’s life was about family and holding onto her memory are daughters Janet and Richard (deceased); Darlene and Don (deceased); Sons - Pat and Mona; Jim and Sue; Ron and Brigitte; Glen and Jodi.   Nana celebrated the birth 15 grandchildren; 19 great – grandchildren (plus one on the way); 1 great – great. Nana loved nothing more than holding the sweet babies in her arms and hearing of their lives. Mom commented often how grateful she was for the good health of our family.  Auntie Jackie also fondly remembered by the Berard and Down families.

We would be amiss not to mention Crosby, Nana’s fur pal.

Waiting at heavens gate for Jacqueline will be a host of family and friends – greeting her with loving arms.

Born at the family homestead in St Pierre as a tiny but mighty spirit she enjoyed country life, with fond memories of picking berries and making sweet jam as a child.

As a petite French girl, Jackie moved to Winnipeg at age 15 where she taught herself to speak English from a French/English dictionary.

Ross and Jacqueline married on July 8th, 1950. Celebrating 70 years of marriage this past July, they loved and cared for each other in their home until Mom’s passing. The dance steps had a few more shuffles but the love as strong as ever.

As a military family we traveled the country. Ross and Jackie made friends and memories where life took us.   Daughters were born in Winnipeg; Pat and Jim in Vancouver; Ron and Glen in Ottawa.  In 1968 we returned to our roots in Winnipeg settling in Transcona.  Ross and Jackie weren’t quite finished with their gypsy souls as they relocated to Niverville and immersed in the community; followed by time in Steinbach until 1994 when they built their forever home ‘in the woods’ of La Broquerie.

From a wooded lot, Mom and Dad began a transformation that unfolded for the following 30 years.  The first season was spent seeing how the sun rose and set among the trees; brush was thoughtfully removed to find the perfect place for their home to be set.   The artistic styles of Mom and Dad lead to a magical place.   Over time flowers were tended, nudged, relocated and celebrated. Pinks of every shade, blues and purples danced with ground cover to stalks taller than Mom. Yellows and oranges added pops of colour – raspberries dotted the tree line. Spring was a time to watch in wonder as blossoms filled the yard through to fall as the maples glowed.  Yellow wrens played all summer with hummingbirds and blue jays singing and bathing in the pond.  Fall and winter brought the chickadees that were watched from the kitchen table. For two years a red cardinal lived in the wood all under Mom and Dad’s care and delight.

Another addition to ‘the woods’ took place when Glen, Jodi and Ron, Brigitte established their neighbouring properties bringing much life and adventure as Mom and Dad could watch the youngest grandchildren grow.

Mom and Dad travelled extensively from camping in the Rockies; Riding Mountain; Caribbean Cruises; Bemidji and Duluth; touring the East Coast and special times in Gimli but were equally happy with family celebrations in the yard.

Nana was the epitome of love. She was known to shower everyone (and everything) with tenderness and care, whether you were family, or she had just met you. She had a way of making all things feel special - those surrounding her, the animals and birds who called her yard home…well maybe not the squirrels… And let us not to forget the holidays… Christmas spirit poured out of Nana unapologetically.  When we think of Nana, we see her in her garden. She was sunshine in human form, so it is no wonder why her plants and flowers were always thriving brightly. She encompassed all beings with unconditional love - one of her countless qualities to be admired. Nana has left her fingerprints on all things beautiful. We will be reminded of her through the blooming of flowers, the feeling of a warm summer breeze and the comfort of a big bear hug. She was the best Nana you could ask for, and we were lucky enough to have her as ours.

Mom’s ‘Couldn’t ask for better’ will forever ring in our ears.

We will be forever grateful for the care and kindness provided by the Bethesda Hospital team of doctors, nurses, care workers – especially during these most difficult times.

In lieu of flowers donations to Bethesda Foundation.
