Obituary of John Kasdorf

John Kasdorf, aged 89 years, of Steinbach, MB., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

He is survived by his wife Anne, two daughters: Ruth (Alvin), and Martha; two sons: David (Lesley) and Henry (Tanya); one brother George, nine grandchildren: Tiffani, Nolan, Kristen, Shayna, Braden, Mackenzie, Joshua, Bauer, Jace; and two great-grandchildren: Kaybrie and Harlow.

He is predeceased by one sister Tina and one granddaughter Jennifer.

John was born in Rosengart, Ukraine on September 1, 1931. He immigrated to Canada when he was 17, in 1948 with his mother and siblings. He came to a new land determined to build a good life in a new country. He worked hard at various jobs to make that happen. He went from factory worker at Loewen Windows to line worker at Friendly Family Farms, to sales representative for Electrolux and finally landlord of apartments. One thing remained true was his strong work ethic and a drive to succeed.

He met his love and married Anne Krahn on July 22, 1956. They built a life together. He loved little children and would play harmonica for them so they could dance. He enjoyed spending time playing with his grandchildren in his retirement years. Dad loved music, especially choral music. He was proud to be part of a men’s choir. He had a heart for those in need and would often supply groceries for people that he knew were struggling. His faith in God was strong right until the end and his church was an integral part of his life. He is at peace now and will be greatly missed by us all.

A come and go viewing, for 10 people at a time, will take place on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

A private family funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with a private family burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of John can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
