Well Pete, I have to say goodbye. Don’t really want to, but Jesus has called you home. While I’m a little upset with Jesus, I can understand His taking you to be with Him. And even though I am, in my opinion, worse off for not having you around, you are definitely in a much better place.
I grew up with Peter. Until the end of high school he was like my 3rd brother and I was like his the only brother he had until Wally came around.
Pete, you were the first person that I had real conversations about life with. We had many talks about God, life, adventures, and girls.
And I remember:
Being together at John and Irene’s place enjoying a little platz and jumping into swaths of peas face first.
Canoeing down the South Saskatchewan River and almost stepping on a rattlesnake.
Canoeing down the Bow River from Canmore nearly to Calgary … It was a trip shortened by the damage we did to the canoe.
Summers in Vauxhall and bicycling to that swimming hole, the name of which I have forgotten.
Visits to the farm in Elm Creek before you had to move away.
Motorcycling around Calgary on a hot summer night.
And many more adventurous times we had together.
I miss you already.
Somewhere after college, we slipped away from each other, and we missed almost all our adult lives with each other. I thank God for our recent reacquaintance and the lunches we shared in the past few years. I appreciated so much your passion for Jesus that you shared during our lunches and felt keenly your love and care for me.
Until we meet again,
Eric

It is with great sadness to hear this news. Pete was a great neighbour cousin and friend. I always admired his strong personality in his beliefs and enjoyed the times our paths would cross.

Your hugs were memorable. I always looked forward to them. Your hug was generally longer than the usual 3 second hug. They were about double that. Because of your size, the hug was an enveloping experience. Then you would step back and look and ask how I was doing. Really, wanting to hear how I was doing. Career accomplishments were important (accomplishments really didn’t impress you) and listened to but the most important part of the question was how I was doing, my soul and life at the core. You taught me how to answer that question and become more reflective. Your hugs were memorable. Thank you Pete.

Pete was a friend to our whole family. We got to know him and his family thru New Life Church. Jacob liked the way he talked, a cheerful laughing talk. He had fun hunting with him and talking RC planes. Nolan really enjoyed spending time with Pete while working with the team of Fjords; Freddy and Frieda. He will be lovingly remembered by our Family as a loving kind man. Deepest condolences to Amanda, Jordan, Lauren, Kathy and Family.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to cousin Pete. We knew Pete as a fun loving gentle spirit. Pete also worked for us on the farm and lived with us during that time. This was the same farm where Pete grew up, so that was very special for him and we certainly enjoyed having him. The challenge for Jan was to feed Pete's appetite and try to keep his clothes clean. You see Pete loved food, had a great attraction for grease, which he seemed to wear with pride. He was a great worker and I once gave him the project of assembling a new piece of machinery, He came to me reporting that he was running out of bolts. The problem was, Pete underestimated his own strength and kept over tightening and twisting the heads off the bolts.
Back in those years we remember him as a big friendly guy with a bushy red beard in ripped grease covered overalls.
We will miss Pete. May the precious memories and the fact that Pete loved God give you, as family, peace.
With our love and prayers,
John and Jan

I got to know Pete during his time at Fort Garry church. He, Tim Penner & I had the privilege of being Boys Club leaders together.
Pete had a heart for people & boundless energy in working as a club leader. His faith was always present & it was great working with him & Tim - great memories! My thoughts & prayers are with you as a family as you share memories of Pete. Harold Froese

I only got to know the gift of Peter in the last 2 years of being in the School of Spiritual Direction with him. In our short time of knowing each other he became a dear brother and a presence in my life that was very much like a “papa bear” His big stature couldn’t hide his tears or big tender heart or even his gentleness! I am grateful for the times he went out of his way to pick me and another classmate up for our classes when we met in person. And I smile still at the thought of him helping me into his big red truck one day :) . He also had a deep intimate love for the Lord and it was a blessing to hear him talk as if he and Jesus were close friends who knew how to BE with each other! My heart aches for Kathy and his kids...and all those brothers and sisters and friends! Pete now has seen the face of God fully...no veil—no mystery! I am grateful for the gift...but will miss that friendly bearded face! Much love in the coming days to all who will miss him—-the world needed a brother like him in it and in time we may take heart in knowing that death doesn’t have the final word. May Pete’s life move us to be better listeners—-better lovers —-better friends of God! Your healing journey is complete, Pete and you’re finally home...see you soon, friend! ❤️

Our family loved Pete. We loved when he worked on our farm as a teenager, he lived at our place for a year after high school and then he often came and helped us raise our 3 children Jeff, Danny & Christy. We cherish the fond memories. Pete was such a neat guy... we worked hard with him but always time for a story or a laugh or a great chuckle. We loved his heart... He loved Jesus and allowed His mercy into shaping the person we saw him become. His life exemplifies the grace of Jesus lived out in our daily lives... It was with joy that Irene & I watched his love for Gloria grow into an awesome & wholesome living relationship. God blessed their lives in so many amazing ways... Lorne & Amanda your parents brought so much joy to our hearts. With tears and strength from our Lord... we walked with Peter through the painful steps as he dealt with Gloria's much to early passing. God sustained Peter and with all the courage he had and strength from the Lord, he carried on... He walked with me recently as Irene passed on to be with Jesus. He was such an encouragement to me... numerous times he called me... we sat together in parking lot as he spoke words of encouragement into my heart and mind... Today I am reminded that Gloria, Irene & Pete are together rejoicing & praising with Jesus. Blessings to you all family & friends of Pete. May we all be reminded that God numbers our days... Just like he numbered Petes... and be encouraged in the love that comes from Jesus Christ... to Him belongs our praise & worship... Love John Enns & families of Jeff, Danny & Christy
