Alvin Broesky

Obituary of Alvin Broesky

John Alvin Broesky (Al) was born in Steinbach on October 19, 1957. On June 19, 2021, at the age of 63, he received the ultimate restoration; he went home to heaven to be with his Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ. He took his last peaceful breath at home with his loving wife by his side.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jewel; daughter Andrea Ewonchuk, son-in-law Bob, grandchildren Caleb, Emersyn and Noah; son Travis Broesky, daughter-in-law Jackie, granddaughters Keanna, Kaley, Kaitlyn and Lucy; five sisters, Diane Koop, Doris (Reuben) Ens, Lynn (Ron) Neufeld, Lois (Jim) Hamilton, and Rose Broesky, along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Al was predeceased by his father John Broesky in 1997, his mother Margaret Broesky in 2001; grandson Gavin Parker Ewonchuk in 2008, brother Roy Broesky in 2016, and brother-in-law Roy Koop in 2020.

Al was born into a Christian home and accepted Christ into his life at a very young age. His family lived in Steinbach until he was 14 when he moved with his family to Nipawin, SK. His parents were on staff at Nipawin Bible Institute (NBI) and it was here that he met the love of his life, Jewel Ens. At the age of 16, Al, along with Jewel, sister Lois, sister Rose and friend Tim Eidse started a music group called Fountains of Grace. Music was a big part of Al’s life in his younger years. He played guitar, sang and wrote songs.

Al & Jewel attended NBI together and were married in 1976. Various moves early in their married life saw them living in Flin Flon, MB (1978-1982) where daughter Andrea was born in 1981; Nipawin, SK (1982-1987) where son Travis was born in 1985; and finally, Steinbach, MB where they’ve called home for the past 34 years.

Al was the definition of an entrepreneur. Al & Jewel owned and operated many businesses throughout their lives, all of them involving vehicles in some form or another. They formed Auto City Car Care in 1989 where they did auto re-conditioning and detailing. That same year they also began providing transportation for special needs adults, a business which later became known as Jew-Al Transportation and continued for 31 years. These businesses ran alongside others such as Steinbach Taxi and Steinbach Rent-a-Car which they owned and operated for approximately 5 years each. Al also drove long distance, sold used cars and did most of his own repairs and body work.

Al & his son Travis worked together for the past 15 years in the shop doing the van & vehicle repairs necessary in order to keep their business going. Al’s philosophy always was that there’s nothing that can’t be fixed.

Al had a passion and a love for all things vehicles and mechanical, but the greatest joys of his life were his family and being a husband, dad & papa. He loved and adored his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was the Ranger “reindeer” riding, bedtime story telling, pancake making, kitten whispering, paper airplane making, tickle-monster Papa to seven amazing grandkids and had only begun the legacy of making memories with them.

Al has left a hole in our hearts that only the peace of God can fill. He left this world too soon for us and will be deeply missed. We carry the memories of him in our hearts and know that he is LIVING in heaven with no more pain & suffering. Al was promoted to glory at 5:55pm, Grace upon Grace upon Grace. Thank you, Jesus, for the hope we have in you!
