Obituary of Elsie Isabelle Dooley

Elsie Isabelle Dooley (nee Elliott), age 81 of Steinbach (formerly of Piney) passed away peacefully on June 14, 2012 at Bethesda Place in Steinbach. She was predeceased by her husband Jim, her son Robert; her sisters Mary, Nellie, Jessie, and Maxine; and by her brothers Bill, Herbert (Pete), George and Fred. Elsie is survived by her sons Ralph (Julie) and Joe (Kathy); grandchildren Dale, Bob (Danielle), Blair (Kim), Jessica, Jillian, Bryce and Brooke; and by her great grandchildren Braiden, Bailey, Wren and Robert; her sister Laura, brother Jack (Connie) and daughter in law Linda (Mike). Elsie was born on February 10, 1931 in Minto, Manitoba. She began her teaching career at Berry Hill School in 1949. Elsie met and married Jim Dooley from Hartney on October 7, 1950. Elsie and Jim lived various places in Manitoba while Jim had his career with Manitoba Hydro. When she was younger Elsie did some substitute teaching but most of her time was spent raising her three boys. When the boys were older she worked in the restaurant in Piney. Elsie also spent many years as an Avon Sales Representative in the Piney area Elsie and Jim retired in Piney, Manitoba. Both Elsie and Jim spent their final years at Bethesda Place Personal Care Home in Steinbach. Elsie loved curling and spent many evenings and weekends at the Curling Club. Jim and Elsie also travelled to many World Curling Events (formerly The Silver Broom). Elsie also loved to watch the Toronto Blue Jays on the television and golf at Roseau. She had a passion for cake decorating and created many wedding cakes for the local brides. Over the years Elsie also spent many hours working in the garden and the flower beds. During the summer months she enjoyed the many vacations and camping trips. Elsie was an active member of the Legion Auxiliary and other community organizations. She loved to play bingo and also spent many nights calling bingo at the Piney Community Hall. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach. A light lunch will be served prior to interment at the Badger Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society, 10 – 120 Donald Street; Wpg., MB R3C 4G2. We cannot thank the staff at Bethesda Place enough for all of the help, generosity and heartfelt care especially in the later years when additional care was required. We thought of them as our angels here on earth. Mom was treated like family and cared for in the same way.
