Sharing a name with Barry has always been interesting… from people differentiating us as “preacher Barry” and “Hollywood Barry”, from getting each other’s mail to having to defend each others conduct in the arena, to getting texts to come inspect houses or giving roofing estimates. (Makes me wonder how often he had to defend one of my sermons.) There was never a quiet or dull moment when you ran into Barry. I am sorry you left us so early. Praying for you Laurel and family.

To Laurel and family, and the extended Plett family - condolences to you all on the loss of Barry. Being the same age, we both started out in Kola and attended Sunday School together, and later Virden high school. Our family has had close contact with the extended Plett family for a long time, and we mourn this loss alongside you as well. Praying that God will uphold you and carry you all through this difficult time. - Angela (Penner) Meier

Bear Bear and my husband, David used to work together at OFC downtown Winnipeg. It was always a sight to see the two of them squish into that little car they drove into Winnipeg together for work. Their friendship and comradery continued from there and we would enjoy outings as couples for dinners and fun. All of our memories are such fond ones with Barry always having the biggest laughs and the best hugs. I know you smiling down on us and still laughing.
Will miss you buddy!

My sincere condolences to the Plett and RM of Hanover family. You have lost this truly great gentleman far too soon. I have known and worked with Barry for several years. He mentored me into my position over 7 years ago and is still greatly responsible for my success to this day. I could always contact Barry, meet for coffee or lunch, meet on a job-site, to discuss work related matters. I consider him a pillar in our Southern Group of Inspectors.
He will be missed by all who got to now him.

I am saddened to read of Barry’s passing. We were friends throughout school in Virden and I was happy to reacquaint with him through Facebook. It was evident in his posts of how proud he was of his family. I will always remember his smile and sense of humour. Cherish the memories. My heartfelt condolences to his entire family.

So many great memories, especially of the years we worked together. When Nick was born, a whole new soft tender side was revealed, especially in those first few months of Nick’s life. And the buffets…oh my goodness, first guy I ever knew that could outeat me. Laurel, you made his life so incredibly better. Condolences and love to all of you.

My heart weighs heavy on Barry's passing and sincere condolences to family and his many friends from myself and Corrie. I was introduced to Barry almost 7 years ago and since that time became close co-workers and I considered him a friend. He was quick with his wit and humor and always willing to lend a hand and his experience with everything code was immeasurable . He turned me onto a vice of chocolate raisins in our office. A jar of those raisins are waiting for you my friend. You will be dearly missed.
