Our condolences to you all, Glenda, Serge and family. We were so sad to hear of Inette’s sudden passing. The funeral and speeches that we watched online were such a wonderful tribute to her life.
Some of the earliest memories of your Mom that I think about were from 1969 when I first attended the “Pine Creek Elementary School”. She taught Grades 1-3 at the time and was THE most interesting lady I’d ever met. I marvelled at her makeup and jewellrey, her painted nails, her hair sprayed hair, which to my surprise/amazement, changed colour quite frequently! Each morning she would call out our names for her attendance records. Following “roll call”, I became slightly nervous as she proceeded to walk around the classroom to check our fingernails, which we placed on a handkerchief, on top of our desks. I was very careful to always have clean fingernails not knowing what would happen if I didn’t. As she passed by I remember her wonderful smell. She smelled like the sweetest perfume. All of these things were new and unfamiliar to me at the time, having grown up in a family of 11 children with a Mom who had none of that “pretty stuff”. “Mrs. Asmundson” wore beautiful clothes and had perfect penmanship.
I remember a large board that she covered with fabric then pinned insects on and added a description of each one. My favourite was the monarch butterfly which she’d placed near the top left hand side.
I was extremely shy in those early days and I sure appreciated her kindness to me, sometimes placing her hand on my shoulder, encouraging me with my schoolwork or to speak. I held her in the highest regard.
It was a very honourable thing to be the chosen student to pick up her plate or bagged lunch at the Patterson’s Restaurant. I might have drooled on her cream pie on the one occasion that I picked up her food. Man, I remember returning with that slice of pie!! …As I crossed the street I stared and smelled at that dessert with the toothpicks so neatly placed, to keep the filling from touching the plastic, which covered it so perfectly.
I clearly remember the hand bell she rung at the end of “recess” when it was time to line up and get back inside. At the beginning of the day we all met in one room where she confidently led us in singing O Canada and God save the Queen. I admired her every school day. Having said that, I do recall moments of being scared of her too, when she was “cross” at one of the Anderson boys who was misbehaving.
She was a hero in my eyes the day she poured warm water on my close friend “Janine Beaudette’s” tongue which was firmly stuck on the top of the frozen mud boot scraper.
So many wonderful memories I won’t ever forget.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to Glenda, Serge, and family, the Asmundson family, and Holtz family on the passing of Inette. I worked with Inette for many years and have many fond memories of those wonderful years! Inette was a true and loyal friend for over 50 years. I will miss our group get-togethers and our phone conversations! She always had a huge smile on her face and was one of the friendliest people you’d ever want to meet. Her talents were many- art, music, hunting and fishing plus many others. I am proud to own a piece of her art and will remember her every time I look at it. Her love for nature was apparent in all aspects of her life. Inette was a wonderful human being and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her! Rest In Peace, Dear Friend!

Just a few pictures of all the great fishing trips the four of us went on. Some of the most memorable times in my life, camped out on an island, miles away from civilization, enjoying nature at its finest. I feel so fortunate to have called Inette my friend. She was so beautiful inside and out, and was always my cheerleader for anything I would be afraid to tackle. Friendships like hers are so hard to find, and I will cherish all the times we had together, whether for fishing, hunting, or just a good old visit. She was also like a second mother to all my boys, since she taught all of them in their early years, and spent as much time with them as I did. They speak of her often, and we will all keep her in our hearts forever. RIP MY DEAR FRIEND, UNTIL WE MEET ON THAT LAKE UP YONDER.

I am one of many of Mrs. Asmundson's former students. I know we are all sad to hear of her passing as we reflect on the significant positive impact she had on our lives. She was my first teacher and helped me develop the most essential skills that I still use every day. She was the person that taught me how to do basic arithmetic. I remember exactly how her elegant handwriting looked and can see traces of her style in the way I form my own letters. She guided me as I improved my reading. She did all of this with kindness and grace. I think she was also the most elegant person in my world and I still remember the smell of her perfume!
There are not many people who have such a formative impact on a whole community, but Mrs. Asmundson made a difference in the lives of her many students in Piney. We will all remember her fondly.

Dear Glenda and family,
My most sincere condolences on the passing of your mother and grandmother.
Like so many who grew up here in Piney, your Mom was Mrs. A, the local teacher/principal, to my two daughters. It was after her retirement, that I got to know her as a friend. We particularly enjoyed our talks at the post office on days when I was working there part time. We covered everything from politics, to the state of our current education system, to pets, to who had seen the first bear in spring. We solved many world problems during these talks, and often ended those conversations with, “they should really put us in charge of national issues, because look how we solved most of them in just 20 minutes.” And then had a good laugh at ourselves. I missed those talks when Inette moved to Stonewall.
She will be well remembered and missed by so many here in Piney,
Sincerely,
Elaine Friesen

I'm so sorry for your loss Glenda, Serge and family. Your mother will always be Mrs. Asmundson to me. Throughout her years in Piney as a teacher I think she taught pretty much every member of my large family including me. As I think back to elementary school I still remember exactly how our classroom was set up. Mrs. Asmundson 's desk was always set in the corner by the door that adjoined her office. She was a wonderful lady and teacher. I loved her artwork and wanted to draw like her. I still very vividly remember a picture I drew of a princess in a pink dress. I was so proud that she hung it on the wall behind her desk. I also recall our many school field trips and the highlight of our school year, the Christmas concert. Mrs. Asmundson as well as the other teachers and all the students put so much effort into the concerts and they were always so much fun! Mrs. Asmundson had a beautiful soul. She was a talented and multifaceted woman who loved life, her family and friends to the fullest. She will be dearly missed.
My heartfelt condolences and prayers to Glenda, Serge and family as well as to all the Asmundson and Holtz families and to her many friends and former students.
