Obituary of Rita Paulette Mayner

A come & go visitation for 25 people at a time will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

A public memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Proof of vaccination is required.

Rita Marie-Paulette (nee Claeys) Mayner-Linklater, aged 66 years, of Steinbach, MB., passed away peacefully after her fight with the unknowing knowledge of Covid-19 on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in the ICU at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB. She was our mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend.

Rita was born in Richer, MB., on August 17, 1955, and was the daughter of parents, (predeceased) Leopold and Emilie (Sabot) Claeys. She lived in Richer for her younger years and then moved to Winnipeg, MB., when she was 16 years old. Rita had her only child Bryan in 1975. She met the love of her life, (predeceased) Gordon Linklater in the early 80’s and after several years of courting they got married on June 7, 2008. 

Rita worked at the Relaxed Plaza as housekeeping in her younger years. She enjoyed cooking, baking and loved her country music. She enjoyed being around her grandchildren, playing cards with her aunts and watching her favorite shows on TV. 

Rita was loved by many and everyone enjoyed her company.

Rita will be sadly missed by her son, Bryan (Victoria), grandchildren: Erica, Brendan and Tyson; two sisters Rachel (Andre) Therrien and Rena (Gerald) Bonneteau; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gordon Linklater, her parents: Leopold and Emilie Claeys; sisters: Lucille Richot and Rose Gagnon; brothers: Raymond and Richard Claeys.

We want to send a big Thank You to all of the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB., and Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB., for all of the care and support they had done for Rita.
