Elizabeth (Betty) Plett nee Dueck, age 90, of Kleefeld, MB passed away on Saturday, March 12 at home.

She is survived by husband David G Plett, one son Wayne and Darlene, two daughters Sylvia and Dan Reimer and Bev & Terry Penner and daughter-in-law Rose and her husband Bill Dyck, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and their spouses.  She is also survived by her siblings Maise Hildebrand, Susan Duncan, Trudy Shaner, Peter and Betty Thiessen, Levi Thiessen and Frank Dyck and in-laws Leora Thiessen, Jessie Thiessen, Leona Thiessen, and Elizabeth Loewen.

She was predeceased by one son Donald, eight brothers and two sisters.

Mom was born March 21, 1931 to Frank & Tilly Dueck in Steinbach, MB. She grew up on the East side of Steinbach. Her dad passed away when she was only 9 years old leaving behind a very young family. Their mother was not able to provide for them so the church stepped in. The children were all placed in different homes and mom got to choose to go live with Peter & Mary Thiessen. Even though mom was never formally adopted she was their daughter. She worked at home on the family farm near Giroux, MB. Mom was baptized upon confession of faith in the Blumenort EMC church by David P Reimer before she met Dad.

Mom and Dad were married on July 19, 1952 in the Blumenort EMC church. For 2 years they moved around in Manitoba as Dad worked for Fast Brothers doing land clearing and construction. In 1954 they bought a dairy farm in Kleefeld, Manitoba and moved there. This is where they made their home and raised their family.

Mom loved babies and little children. This is evident in the many baby sweater sets she knitted over the years and gave as gifts. She also loved doing embroidery and sewing. Mom was also a great cook. A lot of the meals she made were served on the field. She is known for her “famous” pineapple squares by most family members.

Mom and Dad were involved with the Mitchell Seniors Center for many years. Mom was always in the kitchen helping with the food. They volunteered at the Mennonite Heritage Village where mom did the cutting out of the roll kuchen.

Late November 2021 mom started having issues with her left foot. At the end of December it took a turn for the worse and it was determined to be a circulation issue. She went into the hospital February 3rd and came home March 8th after a procedure to open up the blockage did not work. Mom spent 3 ½ wonderful, happy days at home with Dad and died peacefully in her sleep at home.
