Obituary of Sadie Warkentin

It is with great sadness we mourn the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Sadie Warkentin. She was born on June 23, 1922 and passed on to her Heavenly home on July 13, 2012 at the age of 90. In 1925, Sadie and her parents emigrated from Russia to Canada. They eventually settled in Manitoba where she later met Art Warkentin. They were married on August 3, 1941. Sadie was predeceased by her husband Art on June 13, 1983, granddaughter Angela on December 18, 1977, her sister Anne on September 14, 2011, two brothers-in-law (Alan Penner and Glen Murphy), her parents and 5 siblings in infancy. She will be lovingly and forever remembered by her children Shirley (Henry), Phyllis, Margaret (John), Joan (Ike) and Mike (Pat), 13 grandchildren and their spouses and families, 14 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and her sisters Mary Penner and Laura Murphy and their families. Mother always loved entertaining, cooking and baking for her family, friends and others. Her life was filled with ambition and a keen energy to “create and make” and “cook and bake”. To fulfill this ambition, she started “Home Catering Service: With a Delicate Touch!” From there, she went on to open a restaurant “MJ’S Kafe” in 1982 with Mike and Joan featuring traditional Mennonite Specialties. In 1996 she fulfilled another dream and created a cookbook “Sadie’s Recipes and Reflections”. “Work wrought in activities which bless others produces joy in the heart of the one who does it”. She had that joy in her heart as she did what she so much enjoyed to the very end. She was a most inspirational, positive and memorable woman. We, as a family, wish to thank all the wonderful staff at Bethesda Place for all the tender loving care Mom has received. Mom, All of the memories you have given us over the many years will provide your loved ones with love, comfort and happiness for the rest of our lives. The funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Wednesday, July 18 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing prior to the service. Interment at Memorial Cemetery. If friends so desire donations may be made to Bethesda Place, 399 Hospital St., Steinbach, MB R5G 0E6
