Obituary of Aleksander Smoczynski

Aleksander Adam Smoczynski, 48, of Steinbach MB., passed away suddenly on Saturday June 4, 2022.

It was too soon for Alex to go and he will be deeply missed by his wife Rebecca of 23 years, his son Seth, daughter Kaleigh, husband Kyle Kasdorf and their children Jamie and Emma, his mother Krystyna and stepfather Bill Kwasny, mother-in-law June Moyle, sister-in-law Amanda, husband Joel Miyazawa, their children Hayden, Sophia and Kai.

Alex was predeceased by his grandparents and aunt and uncles in Poland and here his father-in-law Ilan Moyle, and his sister-in-law Julie Moyle.

Alex, also known as Olik, was born in Krakow, Poland on Dec. 14, 1973. He grew up on the family farm, immigrating to Winnipeg MB., with his mother at the age of 11. Alex spent his teen years in Winnipeg where he met and married Becky, becoming a father to Kaleigh and Seth. Alex spent many years as an accomplished long-distance driver, driving for Reimer Express, AYR Transport and Frontline Freights. He even hauled pigs for a year here in Steinbach. He loved exploring the world with map in hand, taking pride in his driving career, which upon retiring from, accented his career change to Steve’s Livestock in 2020.  He came off the road just in time to soak up being a proud grandpa to his favourite wild grandbabies.

History, cooking and trying to create a golf course lawn were some of his favourite pass times, and of course the Patriots! The clock stops when the Patriots played.

Alex loved his family, and to this day nothing made him happier to know his kids were safely home with mom.

A celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with a reception to follow.

There will be private family burial for Alex.
