At Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, at the age of 54, Janice Holland (nee Dueck) stepped into the presence of her Lord on July 21, 2012. There to welcome her were her parents David and Katherine Dueck, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a host of loving friends. Left behind to mourn her earthly loss are her husband Mel Holland, her children Collin and Candace (Kwame), her chosen children Ivan Stahl, Harold and Mary Miller with her chosen grandchildren, Brianna, Daryl, and Andrea. Her nine brothers and sisters with their families and many, many friends will also feel the loss. Janice was born on February 17, 1958, the seventh of ten children with whom she spent a wonderful, loving childhood in Kleefeld until meeting the love of her life Mel Holland. They were married on December 17, 1982 in Niverville and were blessed with two incredible children. While raising her family, Janice continued to volunteer her time to many causes; the closest to her heart was serving the Kleefeld EMC in a variety of roles. She completed her high school diploma at age 48 and attained her computerized accounting diploma at 52. Mom did not believe in sitting still, she continued to crochet until the last days but was unable to continue her quilting and sewing for the last few months. Mom loved to travel and we will always treasure that last family vacation to Las Vegas. Our close friends Connie and Abass will miss the frequent shopping trips to Grand Forks that Janice loved. The family would like to thank the long line of incredibly patient and loving medical people that helped us all during Janice’s illness. We never knew that such dedicated professionals could also be so compassionate. We feel blessed to have met you and thank you so much for your love that was so openly displayed. The viewing will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, with funeral services Friday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Kleefeld Evangelical Mennonite Church in Kleefeld. Interment to follow at the church cemetery with a light lunch to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations of offset the funeral expenses.
