Funeral services will be held on Friday September 23, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church in New Bothwell, MB, with interment to follow at the New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church Cemetery.

Aganeta Martens, age 72 of the RM of La Broquerie passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022, at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

She is survived by her three daughters and two sons, seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren: Erika (Marlin) Justin; Mathilda (Jonathan) Kara, Ryan; Edwin (Krista) Cameron, Shayla, Kira, Daniel and Jaden; Romanda; and Wil, KayLee, Darren and Taylor, two sisters and two brothers and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and five sisters, one half brother and one half sister, her husband and one grandchild.

Mom was born on June 15, 1950 to Wilhelm and Anna Froese in Loma Plata, Paraguay.

She married Dad on November 25, 1972, in Chaco, Paraguay, and they were married for almost 48 years.

Mom did not have any easy life. There were many obstacles and health issues for her to overcome. She had a nervous breakdown when her father passed away when she was 16 years old and thereafter struggled with depression for the rest of her life.

She was baptized upon the confession of her faith on May 25, 1969. Her faith was very important to her and she was very vocal to everyone that they needed to be right with God.

For most of her married life she was a stay at home mom. When the kids were in school she started working. She worked at the Dutch Connection as a cleaning personnel and then at the Steinbach Sewing factory for many years and lastly at Jolly Millers as a cook for a very short time.

Mom loved working outdoors. She loved to garden, work in her flower beds as well as raise chickens and cattle. Mom also had a few milking cows until the work became too much for her after Dad had his accident and needed her to care for him.

Mom also enjoyed crocheting, reading, puzzling and playing games on her tablet until her eyesight no longer allowed her to do those things. She crocheted each of the grandkids a blanket when they were born. Some used theirs so much that she had to make them another one.

Her children and grandchildren were very important to her. She always had time to have the grandkids stay when we were working or going out. She was a very giving person. If you needed something and she had it….she would give it to you.

In addition to numerous other medical issues, mom had an unknown/untreatable tumor in her brain that caused very many issues in the last 8 years of her life. It affected her whole body and left her extremely weak and eventually left her unable to walk and talk clearly. Mom was completely bedridden for the last two weeks of her life. She loved it when people came to visit, sing and pray with her.
