I knew Willie since I was a child. His family lived across the road and track from our place, in Piney. Later when I started school, there were many times when he and his brother would pick me up in their car on the way to school. We only lived 1/2 mile from town but, it sure was nice to get a ride, especially during bad weather. When he was dating Sheila, we would see him rushing to pick her up. His family were very good neighbors. Sorry for your loss.

Aunt Sheila, Michael, Leanne & Casey, we are so very sorry for loss. We will always miss Uncle Bill’s hearty laugh and his big smile. He has given us so much - from his work hard play hard approach to life, to his strength and love for his family. Coming home will be different but we know that with “Flash”, Heaven has gained an Angel. We love you, all.

We were so saddened to hear about the passing of Bill. Such fond memories our family has of Bill - from New Years Eve socials at the community club, on the ice playing ringette or on the baseball diamonds (and sunflower seeds), the hallways of Frontenac or the numerous wonderful times at Buffalo Point - Bill made such an impact on our lives. Our thoughts are with you Sheila, Leanne, Michael and the entire family. Love Elaine, Laura and Susan Didyk.

To the family of Bill Sawka: I am so sad to hear of Bill’s passing. I share my condolences to Sheila, Mike and Leanne and the entire family. I first met Bill in a floorhockey game at Prendergast school where many St. Boniface fellows met in a “friendly” game. Then when Howden School was converted to an Immersion School, Bill was transferred to Frontenac where I was the VP. That was the start of 16 amazing years. Bill was not a “boss” as the Principal of our school but a colleague, one who was supportive of all good endeavours, a leader of so many important programs and activities that made our school the envy of many. As a partner in the office, Bill was not one to pick and choose his responsibilities, but one who looked at the list of all we had to do and grabbed whatever needed to be done next. Being that we both came from a rural background with a strong work ethic, I always respected his attitude of “pitching in” to get whatever had to be done not only completed but to make it the best we could. I also respected his confidence in me and was not afraid to share whatever responsibilities that our system needed. From spearheading educational programs of all types to the hiring of staff. I would challenge any other school with the quality of people we hired. My memories of Bill include his support and leadership in Outdoor Education programs, music programs including stage productions, (Bill even pitched in to help us set up stages after classes) and our amazing Physical Education programs which included many, many teams and sports. He was a divisional leader in the area of mathematics, (Sequence of skills eg.) as well as innovative programs for the classroom. And a favourite memory will always be the “staff” meeting held in his office at the end of the term or year where we could always count on a bottle of CR showing up. Just bring the Pepsi. Bill left a mark on this world that will not be forgotten. Andy Bell

My sIncere condolences to you Sheila and Michael and Leanne. I have some wonderful memories of working with Bill in the St. Boniface School Division and as one of the “senior” more experienced administrators I always found him to be pleasant and engaging in his interactions with me as a rookie administrator.

Ice fishing with Bill are some of my best memories when I was starting out in this hobbie and he gave me some great tips and advice.
He became like that favorite older uncle with the great stories. Always being super nice and appreciative of even the quick visits over at their place. A drink being shared was never far behind the “ hello”.
I remember a “ Buffalo days” boat ride with my family and he had made Ryder the captains helper. What a smile he gave that kid on the big lake.
I’m so happy that I got to know and I will remember all the great times had.
Jays fans we will always be.
Happy tears till We see each other again my friend.
