Obituary of Blayne Peters

Surrounded by family, Blayne Alexander Henry Peters, age 25 of Winnipeg, passed away after a lengthy illness on November 30, 2022, at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB.

He is survived by his mom, Elaine Peters, Grandparents Henry & Ruth Peters; Uncle Gordon and Aunt Anne Peters; cousins Brett, Tayler, Kyle, and Colton Peters; foster parents Michelle and Bob Davidson, foster brothers John and Carter Wozny, foster brother Robbie, and foster sister Sarah (Kris) Balcom and their son Koen; and many other family members that were special to Blayne.

He was predeceased by his foster sister Rosie, and his foster Dad Bill Wozny.

Blayne was born with prune belly syndrome, leading to lung and kidney issues which limited his activities and life experiences. He never ate any food, he was tube fed all his life, and his tracheotomy helped him breath. Blayne was expected to live one day, then two, then a couple of weeks. That moved to a couple of months, then years. He was never expected to walk or talk or live past two years of age. And the miracle of God was that he reached 25 years of life, he walked, and he definitely was able to talk.

It seemed the only body function that worked well was his heart, and it operated at a beautifully high level, particularly for his love of family, friends, and caregivers.

He went into foster care at an early age, and was well loved by Michelle and her family. He came to love his foster family deeply.

He graduated from high school in 2015.

At the age of 18 or so, he moved into Riverview for a couple of years, before moving into the Transitional Living Centres. He had his own suite here. Once a week he was taken shopping and enjoyed purchasing shoes, of which he had many, and much Harry Potter paraphernalia, as well as many video games and movies.

After spending some years here, Blayne was admitted into the Health Sciences Centre because of his sickness. He spent four months there receiving care. Following this stay at HSC, his medical condition demanded more care and so he moved back into Riverview. Here he received great care until shortly before he passed away.

Blayne enjoyed playing video games, watching movies, and playing with his numerous wands (such as Harry Potter used). Spiderman was a favorite super hero of his.

He loved when family came to visit him, and Blayne loved receiving monetary gifts and gift cards, so he could purchase more of his favorite games and movies.

Celebrating his birthday and Christmas together with family was very important to Blayne. He absolutely loved these times with his family.

Praying together with Grandma and Grandpa was a must before leaving after a visit. He was insistent on praying for many family members and friends.

On October 30, one of his favorite people, uncle Dennis, took him to Comicon, which he thoroughly enjoyed. This was one of the highlights of the year for him.

In the last few months, Blayne really enjoyed cookie dough ice-cream. This was a regular request to Grandma when she came to visit, which was often.

Blayne suffered much and although we are saddened by our loss, the life and joy he brought to those he loved, we are glad that his suffering has come to an end. He will be greatly missed.

Blayne passed away with his mom Elaine and grandma and grandpa present at his bedside as he made his way from this life into the next.
