Obituary of Peter Chubaty

On Sunday, January 23, 2011, Peter Chubaty at age 87, beloved husband, father, and dido passed away peacefully at the Seven Oaks Hospital and went home to be with his Heavenly Father. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Anne of 65 years; his daughter Alice Grywinski; his son Nestor (Marian); grandchildren Larysa, Melanie, and Jeremy; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is also survived by two sisters, Adele Lacko (Andy) and Fay Podolsky; and three brothers, Willie, Walter (Elaine), and Johnny. He joins in eternal rest his son-in-law Steve Grywinski; his parents Alek and Lena; his brother Stanley; his sister Mary and her first husband, John Kohoot, and her second husband, William Slusarchuk; sister Anne Shachtay and her husband Harry; sister-in-law Lil Chubaty; and brother-in-law John Podolsky. Peter was born and raised at Rosa, Manitoba. After he got married, he bought a farm at Rosa which is still the family homestead. The mixed farming income was supplemented by Peter’s hard work at various jobs such as harvesting, bush work, and construction work. This was followed by working for the City of Winnipeg and then the Highways Department. He found time to be a trustee at the River Ranch School, a one-room country school, and to be treasurer for the Rosa Hall committee. He also was a lifetime member of the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church at Rosa. The highlight of his life was his visit to Ukraine in 1993 where he was able to see the exact place where his dad was born and where his grandparents lived. He was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage. When there was some free time, he enjoyed entertaining, playing his harmonica, hunting, and fishing. Nine years ago Peter suffered a debilitating stroke that left him with limited speech and movement. He managed to communicate with facial expressions and hand movements. His wife cared for him for four years before he went to live at the Holy Family Home in Winnipeg. The family would like to thank Dr. Babick and the staff at the Holy Family Home, especially the staff of the St. Michael’s ward, for everything they did for Peter. The love, devotion, care and compassion of Peter’s angel, Nettie, was immeasurable. Thank you to the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate for their prayers, dedication, and compassionate care. Also, thank you to the clergy, family, and friends who visited and prayed. Family and friends are invited to join us for prayers on Thursday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive in Steinbach and / or Divine Liturgy on Friday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Eucharist Church at Rosa, MB with interment at the church cemetery. Audio will be provided in the centre so everyone can participate. A reception will follow in Rosa at the Shevchenko Ukrainian Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful if donations in Peter’s memory would be made to the Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 1T9 or to the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 24, Rosa, MB ROA 1NO. Vichnaya Pam’yat Memory Eternal
